If you think Horseshoe Bend is eerie you should visit Shiloh. Stand where Ruggles battery was and walk across the field to the Hornet's Nest stand where the Union Soldiers made their stand. Lean on the tree where General Albert Sidney Johnston died from blood loss. Meditate for a moment at Bloody Pond where the dying soldiers crawled to get just a sip of water before they died... You can feel the spirts of the men who died those 3 days. It is a sobering place.

They say the peach trees were in full bloom and so many shots were fired that the petals from the flowers rained down like snow flakes.

If anyone up this way in north al an have nothing to do please go spend day at Shiloh . It’s just fews miles across state near Savannah tn. I live 30 minutes away an been there many times . It’s a sacred place for sure . My great grandfather was captured there at spent yr in yankee prison. Shiloh is a place where you cannot fathom what really happened there. Ancestors that lived here during that time told they could hear cannons from where i live . It’s just weird feeling walk around that place an try to imagine the agony the soldiers suffered on both sides.

Shiloh is a cool place. Read about it and try to go the same time of year the battle was fought. The most touching place I’ve been was the bloody angle at Spotsyvania because I was able to stand at the very spot where my ancestor and his brigade was engaged.

And then go just down the road and eat at Hagy’s Catfish Resturant, a day well spent.

Great great grandfather fought in southern side. There is a well preserved photo we have of him in uniform holding his sword. His rifle and other gear are on display at a museum in pontotoc Ms. My first cousin went up there not long ago and the old lady actually took his rifle out and let him hold it. He said that was a strange feeling. He has tried to get me to join the group but I just don’t have the time. I do want a trip to pontotoc to see his stuff on display. Thinking of going to a reenactment in quitman ms this wknd “battle of the Texas hospital”. I know my great grandfather fought at chickamauga. I went out there few years ago and found the hill side where his regiment fought. Think it’s the 44th or 46th ms. It was a funny feeling standing out there where he fought all those years ago.

Irish, my great, great grandfather was also a Kendrick (Samuel Christopher Kendrick). I have a tin top of him in uniform. He joined when the family lived in Georgia. He settled in the Banks community of Pike County, Alabama after the war. I don't know the specifics of his unit but my folks have his records.
