Sounds like APCO is putting the screws to their customers. Shocker.
IMO, they’ve gotten way to powerful.

I’ve dealt with them on a couple issues where they caused damage on my property.
They had the the attitude that they could do whatever they wanted to and there was nothing that I could do about it.
With a little help from a legal professional, we proved them wrong. 😁
They had gotten accustomed to doing things their way in the past because the previous owner was allowing it.

Kept our Buck Model 81 woodstove burning the whole time and our bill was $151.00 that's with swimming pool pump running, 4 refrigerator, freezers, hot water heater, light and central unit fan blowing continuously, lights, Tv's etc.. Wood stove takes a little work but house stayed 69-73 degree's thru it all. 2200sqft.

I used 1867 KWh, in 31 days including the big freeze the first week of Jan. Total bill $253.30, that includes all taxes and $8.35 for a security light. Sounds like Alabama Power is stickin' it to y'all LA boys.

I just looked at mine again. This month compared to last month is $2.55/KWH more. BUT, here is the kicker, you do the math and mine is actually lower this month than last based off what I paid. There is definately something wrong with pricing or meters.

Ala power rates have 2 prices. Peak demand hours iirc are .30 kwh. Off peak rate is .09 kwh.
Peak hours this time of yr are like 5am-10 am when heating demand is greatest.
We run gas heat in morning when its peak electric rate and then at lunch she turns gas off and turns back on electric.
We bought a heat pump water heater that connects with wifi and app.
She set it to "idle" during the peak rate hours. Clothes dryer and washer also get set on time delay start to come on after peak hours.

There are fed tax credits for energy audits. Everyone who wants to save $ should have a blower door and smoke test done to show you where your bleeding your heat and ac too.

Lookup Matt Risinger on utube. Hes a home builder who builds homes right in areas where new built homes have to meet a very tight minimum code. He has some very good videos.

Yall also remember that Alabama has a tax credit for efficient wood burning stoves.

Mine was abnormly high. 18' ceiling doesn't help. SIL checked the unit. A mother board had gone out and it wasn't defrosting. Had one on the truck and fixed it free. Hope it's better this go round.

Mine was $251.89 all electric in 1700sft house. I used the same kwt as in July and the bills are the same. You need to get an Alabama Power login and look at your history of power.

The issue is power strips..... when the central air goes to auxiliary heat then its sucking power. I run small space heaters when it gets really cold to prevent the aux heat from kicking on. Not sure it makes a big difference but I "think" it helps.

I also run budget billing and pay $183 per month all year, but I budget it myself via my bank autopay. I will never go back to paying the bill monthly.

So based on kwt used in July and last month.. I see no issues.

July 2023 - $259.94 1482kwh

Jan 2024 - $251.89 1465kwh

My bill is correct.

AL Power = a bunch of overpaid crooks. Everyone up there is making bankroll off us and laughing. They got Montgomery in their pocket. They run this State.

Florida Power and Light here in Milton Florida. Used to be Gulf Power which is a part of Southern Company. FPL is crooked. Taking government money to put in hundreds of acres of solar panels and doubling our bills. We should have the ability to break up these monopolies.

My buddy at Al Power just texted me and said he just got his gas bill. Highest it’s been since 2012.😁
