As a parent and a father I am always trying to impart some wisdom, based on my life experience into my kids. I have always been amazed and frustrated by the amount of times they actually take advantage of it. They are actually all very smart intellectually so I know it can’t just be that they are idiots😁. Then I start to think of how much I actually followed my Dad’s advice growing up. It was very little. I now believe that in General humans learn by personal experience more than any other way. You can tell them 500 times not to touch that hot stove but until they experience actually touching it themselves, your just wasting your breath.

How you word things is a big factor.

If you don't break it down a certain way, it might not get through. That was a lot of my problems. Another is...we are different people now that we have got some age on us.

Yes Sir it is.

Young people are truly amazing when it comes to gathering and acquiring knowledge. Like learning different languages or how to tie certain knots or even basic chemistry.
Its the part where the real World application of that knowledge gets dangerous.
Like many of us here. We learned how to make things that can go boom, or make fire, or do both. But using that knowledge in a proper and useful way can sometimes be challenging.

However kids seem to listen to grandparents though.

I agree for sure. Had a great Dad (not perfect) but he was always there spending time with me until he passed at Eighty. I’m sorry for those that didn’t get to have that.

I had an awesome Daddy!! I tried to be in his hip pocket as much as possible. When he was fixing something, running a machine, etc. he would always say "Watch How I do this and you'll also learn how to do it"....and I WATCHED!! He had a CALM/SOUTHERN knack also for stating his Opinion on something I was thinking about doing: If it was a good Idea he was always Positive.....if Bad he would simply say "Well You're probably gonna go ahead and do it but I really wish you wouldn't"....that's ALL it took....I Trusted his WISDOM, that and didn't want to hurt his feelings....We were TIGHT. He talked a lot to Me about my Future,what I wanted to do for a living, etc. It's a GOOD THING I spent all that time listening and had the experiences I had with him.......He passed away of a MASSIVE Heart attack one month before my Birthday. I turned 15....he was 53.5 upon death. Life growing up thereafter was TUFF from a Mental Standpoint......BUT.....I never did Drugs,nor go to jail, nor get a girl Pregnant out of Wedlock,etc. I think about him quite often....He loved to Quail Hunt.....prepare Dove Fields,etc. and We were Hunting/Fishing Buddies!!!!!

When I watch my kids now the youngest is 46 and the middle child is 50 the oldest is 54 I see them using a lot of what their mother (my ex) and I taught them that we thought was going in one ear and out the other. It really is amazing how much stuck and thank goodness most of it was good. LOL
