What interval would you say is recommended for septic pump out? We texted the previous owner last night, he said it was last pumped 8-10yrs back. We don’t pour anything like grease down the tank.
Everything seems to be fine septic wise best I can tell

It's going on 20 years since mine was installed. Never been pumped or.missed a beat That's with five people for the majority of that time

There’s about 1.5 of us living at our house when you factor me gone a decent bit.

I have seen people say every 3-5 years for preventive maintenance But then I have heard, you will know when it is time to pump it out...

I met a guy recently that installs and repairs septic systems. He stays busy and told me that if a system is put in and used correctly it should never need pumping. He said bad installs keep the pumping fellas in business. BTW, I asked the same question on here since our new house is the first one that I've lived in as an adult with a septic tank. I got the same answer from several on here. Then I got several that said to go ahead and get it pumped so you'll know it won't be a problem soon.
Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

It depends on the size of the tank, and the number of people living in the house along with the type of soil that the field lines are in. Where I am at I pump mine every 4 to 5 years.

You should never have to pump a septic tank. We never flush toilet paper and haven’t had a problem in 20 years we been here.

It depends on the size of the tank, and the number of people living in the house along with the type of soil that the field lines are in. Where I am at I pump mine every 4 to 5 years. This is the correct answer. Waiting until you have problems is like changing the oil in your car after a rod is knocking. As the tank fill with solids and scum layer on top, you loose effective capacity, therefore the ability to treat the effluent before it enters the drain field is less. Obviously that interval may be affected by homes with less or more use, but the general rule is 5 years.

Tank at my parent’s house was installed in 1982 and has never been pumped out.

You should never have to pump a septic tank. We never flush toilet paper and haven’t had a problem in 20 years we been here. Well what do you do with the paper? Toilet paper is nothing but problems for a septic system. We throw the $hit paper in Wal Mart plastic bags. Tie them up and dispose of it in the garbage when you’re done. It really ain’t a big deal and it will save your septic system from a lot of problems.

Whats causing yalls septic tank to fill up? Toilet paper disovles same as turds. If it's full of liquid it's a fill line problem.
