I hate shooting does.I haven’t killed a doe in over ten years. Couple of years ago I made myself a vow to not kill any buck under 4.5 or 130 inches. I haven’t seen anything that meets those standards this year. Unfortunately I still enjoy eating deer meat. Today I swallowed my pride and killed a doe for the freezer.🤦‍♂️

You haven’t hurt a thing. If I took that vow I’d break it on opening day. 😝

You’ll enjoy the meat.

😂 I might know how this could go. I’m trying to refrain from hurting feelings too. Not in a bad way, but it might ruffle a feather or two.

I’m definitely going to kill a doe before season goes out. I’ve seen spotted fawns in April on this place. No way they all get bred in Jan-Feb.

This was two years ago. About the same last year. Numbers seem to be down this year. This is one corner of a 10 acre foodplot. I had slung out a bag of cracked corn that day. Theres a feeder about 50yds left of this picture. Probably some deer there too. This is why i had decided to kill some does this year. They kept that 10acre field ate down pretty good last year. Glad i didntkill more than one because i believe theres about half as many deer there this year.

I’m happier shooting a mature doe than any 3 year old buck. We have plenty of does. I get 0 satisfaction out of a 3 year old buck. I just wonder what he would have looked like at 4+, unless he’s a cull. I do have good neighbors who hunt the same at 3 out of 5 of our spots. A lot of us share pics. I don’t kill a lot of deer. We only eat a few a year. I enjoy having the opportunity to kill a big buck, but I’m not that good at it. smile. I’m older n I’ve hunted a long time, and it took a while to get here, and we are blessed to hunt a few of our own spots and a few we lease. It’s primarily just my son n I who hunt w the occasional nephew or friend. I do let family who have not hunted kill a younger buck. Once. It’s not cheap and it’s a lot of work but it’s fun when it starts and when it’s time to hunt (deer n turkey). I do like reading all the stories, opinions, etc on this site. We are all in different situations, but at the end of the day we love this. Good luck the rest of the season!

I consume three deer a year. Generally all will be does unless a good buck presents an opportunity. Saw a bunch of up and comers this year that I hope will shooters next season. It is a corny though true statement, a buck won't get any bigger if he is dead.

I had a man tell me one time when I bowhunted exclusively that when I killed a doe, I was possibly killing the next world record buck at the same time. It took a few years for this to sink in, but he was right. I think about what he said each time I see a dead doe whether shot or roadkilled. I haven't killed a doe in over 20 years and won't kill another one in my lifetime. There is no way I am going to break a sweat dragging out a doe. If my grandkids want to kill one, go for it. Just not for me.

I grew up when seeing a deer track was something that people came from miles around to see! I even remember seeing a doe cross the road when I was about 10 years old. This was the first deer I had ever seen in the wild! During this time the state was trying to restock deer here in Colbert and does were off limits. I can remember folks telling about how sorry an individual was if they killed a doe then. Looking back 55 years later times have really changed.

I can't stand a thief.
