After that he continued to make defamatory statements about Ms Carroll. This is where he should have let his lawyers do the talking, not him. Now Ms Carroll has been awarded $83.3m for his remarks.

NY requires Trump to put up an appeals bond equal to the judgement amount as part of the appeal process. Putting up $5m for the first appeal would not be a problem. He is going to find it hard to come with $83.3m to appeal the second judgement. He can appeal the amount of the judgement and hope to have it reduced. But he cannot appeal the decision by the jury who found him liable until he posts the appeal bond.

This is why Rudy Giuliani cannot appeal his judgement. He can't post a $148m appeal bond.
