Callahan FL,
Hey all, long time follower here. I am fortunate to have a few days off coming up and am thinking about 1 last public land hunt. I only get time off work in January time frame and started hunting public about 3 years ago. Was thinking of trying Redhills. Anyone have a experience there? Im not asking for spots, just some general info. Im very used to map scouting and walking miles to scout. I have hunted same WMA.s for the last 3 years and was thinking about looking into a new one. ANy help would be awesome, Thanks.

I don't believe they allow rifles on that WMA on the gun hunts. Shotguns and muzzloaders only. It's been a year since I looked at the RHs regs. Need to look at them again to be sure.

You gonna pull them pistols, or whistle Dixie?

Red Hills is ML or shotgun with slug only. All gates remain closed to any motorized traffic and just about everything behind any gate is all downhill. The property can be accessed only from 21 or 41 and the 21 side(Beatrice area) had some damage from rains two weeks ago and won’t be any better now.
But they should be starting to chase there by now.

CWB, come and try it. Like everyone has said, it’s shotgun with slug (no buckshot), muzzleloader or bow hunting only. The place is unlike any terrain I have been in south Alabama and believe it’s more appropriate to call it the “Red Mountains WMA!”

Have you been there before to scout at all?

Callahan FL,
Thanks to all for responses. No scouting has been done. I live around 5 hours away. Usually make a few trips other WMA's that I have been hunting past several years.
Looking like I said to get one last hunt in and that caught my eye with it being in the late rut. I have been looking at maps to get ideas. Just was looking for input, deer numbers good?

I went there last year for a few days and saw some deer and plenty of sign, along with hogs and turkeys. Should be decent deer numbers for a WMA and not much pressure, it is as rugged as they say it is and the roads are too

I can’t speak to the “deer numbers” but probably not as dense of a population as your more popular WMAs. There are no antler restrictions so that’s working against the bucks to some degree - although I don’t care because I’m looking for 1) meat and 2) an older buck regardless of points/antlers.

I mostly hunt the northern areas that are more like primitive hill country hunting and the deer seem to be in pockets. The place is so big (~15,000 acres or a lil less at the moment I think) and I probably only focus on 800ac.

If you decide to come shoot me a PM and I will try to give you a little info to start with. Not giving up my 800ac location though HA!
