G/H OP 14 point G Joined: Jun 2010 Posts: 8,913 Tallassee	So with a SE wind the only stand I can hunt is across the road. It’s basically a 40 acre pasture with a small green field and a feeder on it. To the east is 100 acres plus of thinned pines. The land to the south that borders this land is a year old clearcut. Got in the stand around 3:15 and opened two windows to the front a one to the right. My neighbors doors had just recently come thru the greenfield right before I arrived. No deer we seen( been slow recently) until a doe eased down the greenfield from my left to right. Went thru a narrow strip of woods probably 10yds wide and into the pasture. Put my binos on her and could tell her mouth was open from being run. I kept watching the green field and the pasture for the buck. Looking back and forth like I was watching a tennis match. All of a sudden the buck is in the middle of the pasture jogging the direction the doe ran. Got the gun up and started shouting trying to get him to stop. He finally stopped at the edge of the pasture where it drops down behind an old pond dam. Put the cross hairs on his neck( couldn’t see all his body from the sage) and figured the bullet would drop(wasn’t sure of the distance). When I shot it didn’t sound like I hit him because I never heard the thump. Waited a few minutes and ranged the distance, 200 yds to the treeline. Got down and walked over looking for blood, then looked up and he was DRT. Shot him in the neck. Was blessed with the shot. Not sure of the measurements I gutted him and took him to the processor. After I shot the wife texted and ask if I shot my daughter’s deer. Didn’t see a name tag on it, called my daughter and she was happy I shot one. Been living here 22 years and this is the second buck I’ve killed here. Both across the road and not on my land. Shot him with 6.5 with 143eld-x. I had night time pics of him and I think he was a wide 4pt last year. Could have used another year, but oh well.
