What is the deal with fast food restaurants soliciting tips? I've noticed at our local subway there is an option to place a tip when paying by card. I just picked up pizza at Papa Johns. We ordered and paid online. I walk in to pick up our order and the guy checking me out handed me the credit card receipt to sign and tells me "there is a place on there for a tip if you would like to give one". I have never tipped at either place before. I wanted to ask him why a tip would be indicated. I always tip well at restaurants as long as the service is decent. Am I the a-hole for not tipping at the mentioned establishments??

I’m over being asked for a tip. I won’t be guilted into leaving anything & don’t feel like consumers should have to subsidize poor wages at food establishments

On a related note, I’m tired of almost every retailer now asking me if I want to donate a dollar, or round up my total, for some various charity…..just so that company can make a yearly donation in their own name and write it off as charitable giving to lessen their tax burden. Piss on ‘em

By asking for a tip or a donation everywhere you go they have ruined actual tipping for good service.
I don't give tips at places you would never have traditionally give tips at before, and I never do that round-up donation scam crap.

Yep, and iam sick of them asking if I want a store credit card and I get X amount off my purchase that day, and iam sick of them asking me to rate my service like at Walmart self check out, I always give it 1 star because if I have to check my own stuff and bag it then the service is crap

In case some of y’all missed my story…I went into Hooked Up Bait and Tackle in Gulf Shores and got a couple dozen live shrimp this summer. Cashier rings me up and the key pad prompts me a for a tip. Ole boy sitting there staring at me, I look at him and proceed to hit no tip. I’m still not over that.

Tidewe, online retailer with hunting gear, has a place to tip when you checkout.

I don’t tip for fast food. I don’t apply for store credit cards, I’m usually just a grouchy old man when they try to talk to me, I just look them dead in the eyes and say “just give me the total so that I can pay for my shucks and get out of here”, then quickly add “I need to go take my medicine, this hepatitis C is kicking my a$$.”

I dogged marcos pizza out when they asked for a tip. and if anybody ask for a tip I will do the same. the food service got their 100% pay raise and they did little to raise the service or quality.

Me either something about paying a good meal price for some cheap lunch meat and bread just don't make sense to me
