If you like Cajun...you have to try New Orleans Lunch Box at the corner of Holmes and Jordan Lane in the gas station. Old married Cajun couple that cooks awesome eutuffe, red beans and rice, gumbo, mud bugs. Damn they close early though.
If you want some fine country food, drive to Arab. The pharmacy in Arab has the best southern food dishes. Yes it's a real pharmacy with a diner inside. Tim's Cajun Kitchen is good too. Some of the finest Crawfish Etouffee I've ever had. A really good Muffaletta too. It is just off of 565 on Jordan Lane. That place is NASTY! I've never noticed a problem but I usually get it to go and bring home to eat. It is real Cajun though. My son used to deliver Kegs to there and said in the cooler they had dress alligator tails hanging to carve off of and sell. A little nasty in a Cajun place just adds flavor. The lunch box place is on my list to find and try now.

After the average meal and the terrible service, he understood what I was saying. Look around next time you're in there and you will realize why it's so dark inside. It's to conceal the filth.

I live and work in south Huntsville. Rarely venture outside that area. Char, Amerigo, Salt and Light (food truck) are my three favorites.

We used to like Drakes but its been hit or miss last couple times we ate there. Hell it may just be me but since all this Covid sh!t most restaurant food just don't taste as good. LOL.........

My wife has had a small bakery/restaurant for almost 30 years. Food inspectors come by at least twice a year, sometimes more often. Several times when a new inspector is starting they will bring them by to use her shop as an example. She has never scored lower than a 98, usually 100. We have become acquaintances with the inspectors. They have told us stories about open/functioning restaurants - some of them well known - that are absolutely disgusting. When you walk into any restaurant the first thing you should look for is their heath rating. It has to be displayed. If its not displayed openly is because they don't want it to be seen. If the score is below 95 then you do not want to eat there. Very good advice! My wife will check scores ina heart beat. She will also pull the covers back on a hotel room bed checking for bed bugs.

I enjoy Cotton Row. Quite good. Also among my favorites are Pane y Vino, Char, Commerce Kitchen, Mazarra's, Sam & Gregg's (get the gelato, too), Amerigo, Revivalist at 106 Jefferson and La Esquina. The cheeseburger at Co-Op Community in Embassy Suites by the VBC is quite good.
Another of our favorites is Rockhouse in Guntersville.
Last couple of times we've been to Connor's, the steak was not good. I'll go if someone else is buying, though.

Most all the restaurants that are in the downtown area around the square and VBC are pretty good. I’ve never had a bad steak at Cotton Row

Thanks for the info, I have a couple new places to try now. I think I will like Ol Heidelberg, maybe my wife can find some kind of chicken there. I could carry her to the best steak house around and she would order chicken. LOL........ Just curious, what's her deal with chicken? She doesn't like beef or pork?
