I was killing some time at work last night on google maps and ran across the Anniston Army Depot. What are the thousands of little clearings with what looks like pyramids on the north/west side of the depot? And my lord at the military vehicles they have there.

Bunkers. They used to store lots of chemical munitions there and spent about 20 years getting rid of it all. They also made hellfire missiles there and a few other munitions at one time.

A lot of folks might be surprised at what has been stored at that depot. I bet some strange stuff is being stored there now. I know a lot of UXO can be found along both sides of the fence with the Pelham range, but I think a lot of that is just from our National Guard having New Years and July 4th celebrations. They just shoot the artillery straight-up while they are partying.

I believe they clean/refit vehicles coming from combat areas there. The depot does a lot of retrofit/ rebuild of vehicles ( tanks, strykers, launchers etc) . They also do weaponry rebuild/repair as well. a large percentage of DOD contracting companies have a facility on the depot, or near by. Very large operation.

They blow stuff up there multiple days a week.

I've spent a week there, two times, for Incident Command Management training. We had park somewhere and then bussed to the housing and accounted for at all times. This was when they were in the process of disposing of some bad stuff. I felt like I was in a minimum security prison. They did let us get out and walk or check out bikes in the evenings. I would walk through the old Officer's housing and bring back memories of my days growing up on Navy bases. Pretty nice houses that were mostly wasting away.
Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.
