So I got a buck I've been trying to get that I missed from 20 yards last month (see the Brushshot fail thread). I went out yesterday and mid-morning I look up and he is crossing the ridge about 130 yards away. He is going slow enough that I could shoot if I can find a lane. He kind of gets to the edge of range, but he stops. I get up to try and maneuver and get a good lane. He stops right about where he came over the ridge towards me last time. Before I can really get anything going, he spooks and runs off in the direction he ran off into when I shot at him last up a shallow draw with brush and bedding.
A few seconds later, but definitely after he is gone I hear a long and loud series of snort-wheezes. Something is pissed. Never could see what it was Wind in face, too far to see me or hear me. I am positive it was running off the buck.
The question is: Do you think I witnessed another buck running him off, or a doe telling him she ain't quite in the mood yet?

You probably spooked him off when you got up and moved to get a better shot. Unlikley, he stopped before I got up and was looking away in the direction of whatever did the blow and wheeze routine after I saw him run away a good 150 yards.

Deer have a much wider field of view than we do. They Can see nearly all the way behind them. Then who was doing the snorting and stomping? That is what I am trying to determine.
