I think all the roads are impassible up here in Dekalb and Cherokee. We live back in the woods on an old Forest Service Road, but judging by our stairs and decks, there's about 1/4" of solid ice everywhere and it's not dropping below freezing today. Maybe the sunshine will help.
17 degrees here. I've got the wood stove roaring and plenty of firewood, beer and food. Honestly surprised we have power up here on the mountain.

I love the rut. The woods are like a bunch of roided up meatheads fighting over a girl.

Everything is a sheet of ice here in "the Cove", with a dusting of snow on top, at 15 degrees . Yard is frozen and crunchy . Concrete and outside steps are slick and dangerous ! Good way to break some bones! Y'all stay warm and safe.

Good way to break some bones! Y'all stay warm and safe. I'm going to have to sprinkle some sand or salt on the stairs. I'm going to have to go get boxes of firewood out of the firewood shed at some point today.

I thought we scraped by this one, but went to the store at 830 last night and it was a steady light rain and 28. It's 14 now and everything, including the road is covered in ice with a dab of snow on top of it, which is frozen solid now, so I guess we've got fluffy ice on top of regular ice.
It's a full blown bustyoass situation here.

Looks like a it layed a sheet of snow on solid ice. Put another log on the fire.

Wind chill here in the Shoals is around zero. I wrapped outdoor pipes and spigots for 2 days trying to keep water to livestock. I think it was all in vain as everything looks frozen outside. Getting the diesel tractors cranked in this mess is going to be a tough job today. I sure would love to have a gas burner just for winter weather like this. Calves yesterday had their backs covered in icicles. It is amazing how they can winter the bad weather.
Folks with livestock "HAVE" to go to work today. We never get an opportunity to completely shut down.
I can't stand a thief.

Yep. We’ve got a jobsite up your way that we have had to postpone because we knew we couldn’t get up the mountain.

Always amazed me when in the upper Mid-West and Canada in winter how their cattle faired . The place across the road from the shop will be picking up dead newborn calves in the morning. In 2014 when we had that ice storm here 17 calves froze to death. Horrible. I wish they would do something with them but so far they haven't.
