Bama blue I would say frak your ladderstand and hunt out of a climber. I did it and everytime one of those dipshits would ask me I would point to my climber in the back of my truck. You're going to claim a place just because you have a permanent stand, BS. That's how you cure that my friend

I’m hoping to find a lease or club near Florence next season when I move. We own land in south bama but would be good to have a spot closer to the house. I’ve been in some bad ones and good ones.

I was in one club where the warden busted the president for spotlighting. Another the president sold the club tractor, pocketed the $ and replaced it with a pos of the same brand and hoped no one would notice, but they did notice and kicked his ass.

If I pay membership to a club I’m gonna hunt every inch of it that I want to. Not necessarily using “their” stand. I would have respect for other members but if I pay for an advertised 1800 acres, I’m gonna hunt it like I’m turkey hunting public land. Every inch of it!

Honest/ trusting people (which is hard to find) slap. People with day jobs with not much leave so us old retired folks can hunt the whole place all week without being bothered. Huge colledge Football fans that won’t hunt Saturday evening. rofl rofl No 24 on 48 off guys dang they hunt too much. We want Folks that like to feed a ton.

Naw just want to hang out with good folks enjoy the out doors we have a great group of all the mix I mentioned. And all is good find a good group and make it work.

What I see from reading on here is that a lot of people want land close to their house. This works well for someone like me who lives in a rural area with some good hunting right outside of the city limits in all directions, but I don’t think it works as well for folks from Birmingham, Huntsville or Mobile. I would imagine the opportunities in Jefferson, Shelby, Baldwin, Mobile, and Madison county are limited just because of the shear number of people looking and a limited amount of land. It’s not much better around here with a lot of deep pocket city folks pricing a lot of locals out of the market. However there is more land to be had and I am very blessed to have the places I have.

Another wishlist item I see is a camphouse on the property. I feel like these are unicorn tracts. Every club I have been in around here before moving here full time required me to a metal building or a trailer, move or set it up. Set an electrical service, trench or haul in water, etc. I have several friends from the Birmingham area that want me to find them a piece of property or club every year. I do the legwork, tour the property with them and they walk away from it because there’s no camp on the property. I understand that this is a concern for someone driving 1.5- 2 hours, but there are options. You just have to be willing to do your part.

Most of the ones that’s fuss about a club have never ran a club. I’ve been on both sides of the spectrum, there some tough decisions to make when running one right. Been a lot do friendships bust up over hunting clubs. Club I’m in now is just where I want to be.

Yeah that’s an important one. And for the sake of transparency, have the budget posted by the sign out sheet. This will help with aforementioned drama

The budget is no ones business. Its a Private club there is no transparency. You dont like the price dont join. You dont like the rules dont join. We have never had a problem finding new members.

That’s ridiculous.
Anyone can put out a ladder stand that wants to, but anyone can put a ladder or a climber right next to it and hunt if they want. As long as you aren’t signed out on it. I could see maybe 1 private spot, but how can you have 50 private spots on 1800 acres?? That’s insane.

As far as financial ledgers and all that mess goes…

I see it as an agreement to access property for a fee under the given rules provided. If I feel like the opportunity, amenities, program, etc. is worth the dues, then I couldn’t care less what you do with the excess money. I’m paying for a key to a gate. That’s it. Some folks get way too caught up in the little stuff rather than seeing the big picture.

Depends on how the club is set up on whether I want to see the financials. I was in a club once where the president “owned” the club. Started it years earlier, incorporated it, leased the land under his personal name/corporation, and sold memberships. He owned the tractor, implements, etc…Work days were encouraged but not required. In a situation like that, I don’t really see where anyone has a right to ask to see the financials. If you don’t trust the situation, or like it, move on. No different than joining a local gym. Members pay to use the services and have no right to the business workings.

Do you ever hunt public land in Missouri?

Yes, but not as much as I used to. With kids in sports I have limited time. This year I tried to get a couple buddies to hunt some public land I know really well in Callaway county. But, everybody is turning into wimps and dont want to camp. It is easier to roll out of bed, take a shower, and hunt close by.

If the price is right and there’s good deer on the property you will never hear a soul ask for the budget 🤣

I’m grateful for the place I have to hunt and the people I am hunting with after seeing all this. Good lord.

What ppl want for the money they’re willing to spend varies so much. Convenience and travel is BIG for a lot of folks. Seeing deer is too. There’s really no way to answer that question broadly.
