I was told today the Westervelt Timber does not allow corn on their leases. Is that the case with all Timber companies?

No baiting whatsoever on Westervelt. That includes minerals.

I’m sure everyone obeys that rule Westervelt will yank your lease in a heartbeat if you’re found in violation.

That and the state’s whole CWD plan is a knee jerk reaction.

I lease from Westervelt. We still have a buncha deer and actually had one of our best years this year. I personally hope they never allow corn again on their property. I wish the state would ban it all but it’s become too much of a cash cow for that to happen.

Another thing to add is westervelt fought against legalizing corn to begin with. They were just looking for a reason to ban it on their property.

I lease from Weyerhaeuser , the adjacent track is Westervelt. I was talking to the guy that leases the Westervelt track, he asked my if we put out corn. I told him yes, we have several feeders on ours. He was so pissed when he found out ours is a Weyerhaeuser track. He said when Westervelt outlawed corn (strictly enforced) they told him every timber company in the state had done the same. I told him ours didn’t. I imagine his timber manager got an ear full….

The letter that all leaseholders received made no mention of anyone but them outlawing corn. Apparently he didn’t read his very well. I love it being banned

I wish the state would ban it all but it’s become too much of a cash cow for that to happen. They could ban it and there will still be corn/feed on most properties. There was before baiting was legal so ya know it will be no different

I wish they’d ban it at our place. Good for killing does and hogs I guess if someone can't kill a buck over bait, somethings wrong...

There was before baiting was legal so ya know it will be no different Definitely would happen. But I consider someone who’d do that no different than a poacher. Breaking the law is breaking the law. But we don’t have to worry bout that. Baiting has brought so much money to the state that it will never be banned. We’d have to have 100 cases of cwd in every county for them to even consider it. It used to be one of the things the state would ban if cwd was ever found. Money rules tho.

I know it'll happen, I spent 9yrs total flying out of Mobile on helos, amazing how much "yellow" we spotted from the air... Those permits do make money. Funny how Oregon and Washington don't charge us to bait but, I go home and need a baiting permit.
