With 3 females in the house its difficult to get a hot shower. We are contemplating putting in an electric tankless. I realize that a gas would be more efficient but we don't have any gas in our house and will likely just do am electric on. What are some of the sizing I need to look for 3br 2ba house about 2500 Sq ft.

It isn't necessary to see a good tackle...you can hear it.

I went thru this decision a short while back. I chose to get the free 50 gallon from southern pine electric. Just didn’t find too many good reviews on them and heavy power requirement.

I currently have one.
We are in the middle of building a new house and we are installing a smart hot water heater, NOT tankless. Not been pleased with the tankless.

In my last home I did some remodeling and put in two smaller electric units. One fed the master shower, and the other fed a bathroom that I added on (shower/sink)

Electric works great for a small point of use area that is isolated. The home I bought was from some empty nesters and they put a 40 gallon water heater in a 3000 sq ft home. With 2 teenagers it was impossible to keep hot water. I first did the master shower for me and the wife and was very pleased.

I used a 13kw heater. Rheem RTE13.

If you can isolate your water lines and add this unit to feed your master shower, that would be the way to go IMO. It does require a 60A breaker and IIRC an 8 gauge wire.

Measure the temperature of your incoming water next week, then look at the technical specs on the largest amp draw tankless unit you have space for. Tankless units are rated for a specific temperature delta at a specific flow rate. If it’s rated to increase the water temperature 35 degrees at 3.5 gallons per minute, running 2 showers (with 1.5 tpm heads) will pretty much max it out. With a 50 degree incoming water temp, that gives you 2 showers putting out 85 degree water. That would equal out to some unhappy females in the house. If you cut the flow rack to one shower at a time (1.5 gpm) then the tankless would be able to get the water hotter.

The electrician that wired mine told me that he recommends a 300 amp service for all new homes that plan for an electric tankless so they have enough electric capacity for a larger then they think they need unit. I think most of the incoming water temp charts you see are way wrong for north Alabama!

I have not heard good things on electric ones but don't have hands on experience. I LOVE my natural gas tankless. HOT HOT water forever that does not run out.

Can you do a propane tank? Might be a thought.

I have had an electric tankless water heater for about 6 years now. We like it just fine. I did go with the 27kw. We have 3 baths and can run all 3 showers at the same time. I does take 3-40 amp double pole breakers. I only had to run wires about 10 feet from my breaker box. I had a tanked water heater prior. I compared the energy usage for two years prior to doing tankless compared to one year afterwards and my electric bill was the same. My main thing I like about it is have more space in the garage now that the tank is gone. Don’t go less than 27kw Hope this helps.

Installed one at our cabin. Only thing to keep in mind is those pull some power when you turn on the hot water. Ours is smaller with two 40 amp breakers but it pulls 75 amps. Of course, when you aren’t using it no power is being used.

WE love our tankless water heater. You should get a whole house water softening system with it. Aquasystems in Pelham sells them. The only negative is if the power goes out, so does your hot water. The endless supply of hot water and the 25 years before you need another one is awesome. We bought the highest gpm that you can get. We never run out of hot water.

I have a gas tankless, it is great. Only issues is, I should have put it in the garage and not the closet. It's in the way and makes noise when hot water is required. I was also told to stay away from tankless electric. But have no experience.

Wow. Those amperage numbers are wild. 27kW is a LOT of power.

Aquatherm was used for hydro heat applications, recovery rate is important…..if you have room for another water heater you can use them in tandem.

alot of preppers store water for emergency so I don't think it's a bad thing to have a conventional water heater that will always ensure that you have 50 gallons of fresh water.
