Pro plan since puppies. Never had an issue. Dogs scratch and lick, it’s what they do. That’s a whole marketing gimmick. Now if they have obvious signs of sores, bleeding, peeling, etc then yeah time to ask the vet.

Not sure what we are gonna do. Both ours have had recalls Pro Plan and Victor. It's hard to find something the tender tummy crew likes and doesn't give them the squirts the woes of owning a GSD and Dutch Shepherd

We have 2 dogs we were feeding purina pro plan. Both got sick and it appears to be the food. We switched and diarrhea stopped.

Purina Pro. My son-in-law did a bunch of research in vet school on dog food. Purina develops healthy and safe food. Smaller brands spend more in advertising and less in development; they tend to have more recalls dealing with safety.

Joy 28-18 or 30-20 is the best you can buy in my opinion. Valu-Pak is my 2nd choice

We were feeding Diamond Naturals but then my old guys got to where they just didn't eat it well, so I switched to Victor but that didn't seem to be much better and now I am feeding Taste of the Wild Pacific Stream (grain free) to three of the four. My oldest dude is eating Science Diet K/D now.

But the cost of dog food has gotten so ridiculous that I keep wondering if I could get one of them to start an Only Fans page to help subsidize their diet lifestyle. grin

I did look into one of those subscription based fresh made food companies, but that was going to come out to be more expensive than any of the above mentioned ones.

Blood in the stool and throwing up. This was a a friends dog who was eating Pro Plan. Could be something else that caused it but he seems to think it was the food.

My lab’s skin allergies all cleared up when I started feeding him Canidae. You can get it at TSC.

I second this. I took Dixiepatriot recommendation on Canidae a couple years ago and my labs skin issues are a lot better.

I feed Purina One Lamb and Rice mainly because it is available at many drug stores, grocery stores, wal mart and pet stores so that way if I run out or forget it on a hunting trip it is easy to grab a bag of what they are fed daily. I have fed it for years and never had any issues with my boykin or lab.

I'm feeding Valu pack red 24/20. It's a meat based feed. A lot of hound hunters are feeding the Sport Mix 24/20 fron Tractor supply or the diamond 24/20. I run deer hounds and have run them a race or two almost every day since the middle of November. They look lean and fit, but not poor and they aren't taking an excessive amount of feed to stay that way. I'm paying just over $30 for 50#, which is high to me, but a lot less than some of the feed I've seen mentioned so far. I can't for the life of me imagine a house dog needs better quality/more expensive feed than a hound that's hunted daily. Of course that's just my opinion.
