Headed to the farm Friday night to hunt. Weather Friday driving down should be fun. Seen some talk about a later rut in other counties. Hoping to see some chasing, we normally do well over MLK weekend. We are in Montgomery county on the bullock county line. I’ll update once we get some sits in. I think the following weekend will be better but I have other obligations. Anyone in Montgomery/Bullock area got any updates? TIA

Not even a little bit at my place, had two racked bucks together on Friday. Thing about that mlk stuff is its the third Monday in January, so if the 1st would have been on day later the holiday would have been a week later. Which I think would have been closer.

It's on in north Elmore/South Coosa right now I'll tell you that

A lot of areas south of I-85 will see a peak around Jan 26-29……. There’s a chance of seeing a hot doe any day now though and if you do get lucky to be where one is already coming in hot then she’ll likely have multiple bucks on her. For the next couple of weeks is your best chance to have rattling and grunting work.

It was dead as a wedge in north Wilcox and south Dallas, east side of the river, last weekend. Very little fresh sign and even less buck activity. Should be starting up soon though. Most likely the latter part of next week.

Jan 14-22 in south Montgomery, then Feb 9 & 10. Book it

I watched a buck Saturday trying to locate a doe on a fence row but he never got downwind of her. He zigzag back and forth for 30 mins that I watched with my drone.

We have small bucks on camera chasing in South Montgomery this week.

Two road kill bucks on Old Pike this week. They are moving, but not fast enough to avoid vehicles. Not a lot of scraps yet. THALL

Being its a farm, there should be hands to answer questions. Call one of them.

Small ones should be bumping. Last week of January into February for that area.

I’m off all next week. I hope I’ve timed it right. I’ll be in lowndes and bullock. Maybe Macon a time or 2.

We have to be within 5-10 miles of each other and I am getting some bucks cruising on camera but no real rut activity.

They rut the same time every year. Book it!

The hunting was slow. Only saw one mature buck over the weekend. Very few scrapes. Saw one smaller buck running a doe.

As of Jan 17 I’m seeing racked bucks together and they had no interest in a plot full of does. Scrapes and rubs are increasing but zero chasing yet. Anytime now though. Just need a little scent in the air to get them stirred up.

Had ~3.5 yo trailing a doe through the yard this morning. Shortly after followed by 1.5 yo. Two other does in yard that these bucks completely ignored. First real signs I’ve seen of any does being ready. Prattville area.

It’s about to start getting good in Montgomery. Typically the last week in January into February is when it’s hot and heavy.
