Are Fiocchi and Cheddite hulls interchangeable for loading in .410 like they are in 20 gauge? I have been using Hal’s simple load with Cheddite hulls for several years but would like to swap to Fiocchi if feasible.

Not everyone at once now. 😬🤣
I have reached out to Hal to see if he has any input.

I didn't know that they were interchangeable for 20 gauge. I remember reading about a test someone did with a pressure difference of over 1000 psi between the 2 on a certain load. But if Hal says that they are both ok for a particular load, then you can be sure he knows. I would wait to hear from him. There's probably not many who have actually tested them.

Hey Mr. Steve! I heard back from Hal. He said he personally interchanges the .410 Fiocchi and Cheddite hulls all the time, just like in 20 gauge loads (I have been safely doing that with the Big 20 XL load for a few years via Hal’s recommendation), and has no problem recommending others do the same.

That's great, and good info to know. I have a decent supply of both, so good to know I can sub the Cheddites if I ever have to do it. I have been trying to remember where I read about the 1000 psi difference in a particular load, but can't recall. I'll try to look for it today. I would just caution anyone reading this to understand that just because this load works with either hull, it doesn't mean that every load is interchangeable with either hull. Or at least it doesn't mean any load would still be within SAAMI specs. I would be severely chastised for posting this on some of the reloading forums, but maybe I can get by on aldeer - it's extremely unlikely to cause a problem with a modern gun to fire a few shots that are 1000 psi too high. Guns are proofed at far more than 1000 psi above specs, so the few shots we shoot at turkeys are not likely to hurt a gun. There was a recipe for hevishot years ago that a lot of folks were using that turned out to be 4500 psi over the limit and they all thought it was a great load. Still, id rather stay in specs. Good luck with it!

I’m an aerospace engineer with years of experience in analyzing metallics for static and fatigue failure. I have double checked the SAAMI numbers and I can tell you that if the change to Cheddite in the Big 20XL changes your pressure by 1,000 psi, you have nothing at all to worry about unless maybe you plan to doing something crazy like shoot 30,000 rounds of those particular TSS shells in your 20 gauge.
However, for the 13/16 ounce .410 load most everyone is using, I’m at least gonna cut my H110 powder charge down to 13 grains just for a little insurance for the hull swap. Admittedly, I have been using 14 grains, which is the recommended powder charge for Winchester 296.

Jug, I had no idea you were a rocket surgeon. I didn't either. I would have never tried to answer a technical question if I had known.
