Son is in college and getting into golf. He’s 6’1” if that matters. Looking for a good brand. Will buy a complete set with irons, putter, driver and bag or piece it out. He’s in school in Bham and could meet someone on Lakeshore drive or nearby, but he’s not a good enough driver I’d want him riding all over metro Bham. I am in Mobile and travel to Selma, Monroeville, Montgomery and Andalusia fairly regularly.

Would like to keep budget under $500 total. See plenty on FB Marketplace but would rather deal here if possible. I have no idea what I’m buying nor do I know how long he may stay with this. That’s why I want to buy second hand and good name brand stuff as I think it would be easier resale.

If you don’t find anyone on here selling, call Edwin Watts and other golf stores around town and see if they do pre-owned clubs or you may even find a deal on a closeout set

I'd suggest ebay and buy from a reputable seller. If you want to stay under $500 for everything look for some 4 or 5 year old irons. Any game improvement iron from the major manufacturers should be good to get him started. Add a 52 and 56 degree wedge , a 22 degree hybrid and a Driver and he will have everything he needs. He can add a 3 or 5 wood later. I'd look for a Taylor Made RBZ driver because it'll be under $100 and was a good driver 5 plus years ago. He can get what he needs for under $500 but he'll need to be thrifty and compromise some to do it.

Bill why eBay as opposed to Marketplace or (does it still exist) Craigslist? I would think shipping would be somewhat of a pain for golf clubs in that you’d need an oversized box and I’ve not met a lot of shippers who understood how to pack and pad odd shaped items. You also lose the ability to look at and handle them before purchase.

Can you shop eBay and sort items locally?

Have you checked with the guy that sells golf balls coming out of Vaughn's?
Pretty sure he has clubs for sale from time to time.
If no luck, I have a set of Hogan Edge forged cavity back that he could use/borrow. They are less forgiving than cavity back. I rarely play any now and they are in storage.

Shipping isn't too bad. Usually $25 or less. FB marketplace is fine as long as the seller is willing to meet face to face. I've had great luck on ebay buying from sellers with great feedback. FB Marketplace has been hit or miss for me.

I got my TaylorMade Burner 2.0 iron set on Ebay for $216 shipped (the $16 was tax). Found them and they guy had the "Make Offer" option on the listing. I offered him $200 shipped and he accepted it. Clubs were in great condition. I have since got a set of wedges, 3 hybrid, 4 hybrid, and driver (all from Ebay) and I'm a little over $500 in on the whole set. Just gotta find the right listing and price.

There is a guy in Saraland that sells clubs on FB marketplace all the time (https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/mobile_alabama/search?query=dennis%20hilburn). Might could check with him and piece together a set in his price range

I’ll show these to my son and see what he thinks. Thanks. Will PM you my cell for further pics. Age of clubs? Right handed? Standard shaft length or longer?
