Does it even matter anymore with the transfer portal?

Nope. I imagine some schools have backroom deals with other schools now.
For instance, Coach X at a big school promises Coach Z from a small school if he can develop some good 3-star high school players into a 5-star transfer players and send them to the big school.

It matters; Georgia #1, Bama #2.

It honestly doesn’t matter anymore, Georgia has had the number 1 class for 3 of the last 5 years. Take out the 14-5 and 4 stars that entered the transfer portal this year and those classes are no longer #1…..

Those who recruit the best will always win the most. The portal has changed things some but recruiting is the cornerstone of every successful program and that isn't going to change.

You are correct the majority of time. However, Jimbo Fisher, Ed Oregeron, Mark Richt were all very good recruiter's but it didn’t transfer to the field.

Two of those three won a National Championship.

And they have won 2 championships and only lost to... Bama in 3 years. The portal matters more to the teams trying to catch up; but signing day still matters a lot.

Compared to where we were a couple of years ago, it is something to crow about. Like I've always said, as long as we keep improving or digging out of the hole Harsin put us in, I'll be OK because that will eventually put us back to where we want to be. As to your last sentence, I'll just keep my mouth shut.

Auburn Fans just need to have some patience, this will take a couple years. The discrepancies specially at oline is real bad. this started back the last couple of years with Gus.

What AUmag said - gus used large shovel - harsin way more advanced digger - dumbest i ever seen - trumps barfield

Amd what i meant w we not done - think we get another olineman - ehols r portal and maybe transfer db

I doubt we get williams - already best reciver class n au history anyway on paper. Last player rating i looked at had us at 4th nationally on avg player rating and class at 7th - we got some dudes

Need to b patient like BuckBasher said

Bunch of AU fans on here were 100% convinced, and really thought that Harsin was going to be the guy to bring AU back to power. Remember the, "he just needs some time to right the ship".

Never underestimate the impact that a young, fresh, good looking hooker can have on a high school kid and the decisions he makes. The Reverend Freeze has a colorful history you know. rofl

Anyone who really thinks Hugh Freeze will lead Auburn to the promised land really needs to look back at Hugh Freeze at Ole Miss and then Auburn’s history as a football program. If You evaluate those 2 things You will understand that Auburn maybe a better team in the future but odds are Heavily against Auburn being an Elite team. With Texas and Oklahoma joining the SEC is really not going to do any favors for teams on the level of Auburn.
