Wanting a new rifle in 270. I want something with a factory brake so I am comparing the X Bolt Speed and the Weatherby Vanguard First Lite. Is the X Bolt worth the extra money?

I can't answer your question but I'm interested in both rifles as well. My BIL has a Hells Canyon Speed in 300 Win. but I haven't shot it yet.

Curious - why would you want a muzzle brake on a .270?

Muzzle brakes are as loud as a train wreck. I hate them.

I can't comment on the guns, but I would reconsider the brake on a .270. Listen to the last three or four posters on them.

I will never own another rifle with a brake on it. If a rifle kicks hard enough that I have to have a brake on it to shoot it comfortably, I don’t need it.

I agree with all the above about the muzzle break. I took mine off and put the thread protector on. Shot a 270 years ago with a muzzle break and never again.

I’ve got both but not in 270. I really love the vanguard I always replace trigger with a timney hard pressed to find a better setup for the price. That being said I’ve been carrying my x-bolt only so far this season.

If it was me I'd go with the xbolt if I could find one without a muzzle brake but if I found a Weatherby for the right price I might would go buy it. In the end I'd go with whichever fit me the best.

I like eveything about the x bolt except the trigger ... They can be made better but for the for the money you shouldn't need aftermarket help.
I guess that could be said for a lot of things though.

As for the brake Im with everyone else. They aren't necessary on a 270 and I hate them.
Although I've had quite a few folks pay me to install them

Mine and the others I’ve seen, the brake is able to be taken off and the supplied thread protector put on.

Don't know about the Xbolts but I have 2 Vanguards and they both will shoot 1" groups or less.

Well, today I went and purchased the X Bolt in 7mm 08. Topped it with a Leupold VX5 firedot. I have the option to remove the brake but that's not my main question.
I decided to get this instead of 270 because I have a BAR in 270.
Does anyone know what 7mm 08 ammo shoots best in the X Bolt? I really wanted some Nosler Partition but can't find any.

You're just going to have to figure out what your gun shoots.
I've had idential rifles that wouldn't shoot the same ammo the same way

I’ve got a Howa, a Vanguard and a X Bolt. Like them all. Like the all metal traditional hinged floor plates on the Howa’s.I did have the triggers on both adjusted by the gunsmith and they’re both really good, if you like a two stage trigger. I don’t like the safety on them. The three position is a plus, but the lever is a poorly shaped piece of metal that just fields awkward engaging to me. And they’re heavy. I like the X bolts locking design. The trigger was not good when I got it. I adjusted it down, but it’s still not great. My only real gripe is the polymer mags that everybody is using. But I see why they do it. Cheaper production costs and more magazines sold because most folks are gonna buy another one = more money. You’ll be happy with the X bolt and VX5 combo. I shot Hornady 139gr SSTs and Remington loaded140gr Nosler BT growing up and they did the job. Both since discontinued. Haven’t had luck with Superformance in anything, but never know.

I’ve never handled an Xbolt but I’m in the market. What’s so bad about their triggers, or I guess, what will need to be done to make it right? I’m looking at the X bolt left handed hunter in .270.

Every Xbolt I’ve owned has been a shooter.
