I pulled back a compound that had an arrow that was too short and pulled my release and the arrow stuck on the riser. My buddy shooting beside me almost shucked his pants He realized what happened and said don’t freaking move.

Was over 20 years ago. I assume it was an aluminum arrow. Carbon would of probably shattered into my arm and face I think

Was hunting with my brother and watched him go up into a stand that built in between 3 trees
I went maybe 50 yds and started climbing in a Baker stand...yeah I know now but didnt way back then
I got up about 15' and let go of the chin-up part of the stand to bounce a little to make sure i was secure
It dropped so fast all i could do was grab the tree and that didnt work except to skin my forearms up real good
The stand stopped about 3' from the ground and i landed on it
It sprung me out away from the tree like i had landed on a diving board
I hit the ground on my back 8-10' away from the tree
I could hear my brother chuckling and asking me if i was ok while i was squirming around trying to catch my breath
No broken bones or anything serious other than scuffed forearms but i know it couldve been much worse

I guess the one that didn't happen. Complete carelessness on my part. I climbed up in my climber and had a deer walk through so I took my safety off. It was just a doe, but I forgot to put it back on safety. I dropped one of my gloves and climbed back down with my gun slung over my back. As I was steeping off to the ground, my rifle scrubbed against a small sapling and a limb got inside the trigger guard and pulled the trigger. It fired over the back of my head. I was shaken up knowing what had happened and considered just getting my stuff together and going home.

I went back up and shot a seven point about an hour later.

There isn’t even a close second for me. Hunting clothes and 20’ of 38° water. I realistically should’ve been found floating, 3-4 days later.

Not me but a friend rode by a pickup parked on the side of a dirt road obviously standing on a deer drive. Right after he passed the rear window of his truck shattered as buckshot peppered the back of his truck. One 00 buck shot missed his head by inches. Older guy that shot was all shook up and said a deer jumped out crossing the road and he carelessly shot right at the passing pickup.

Nothing super serious thankfully, but for me it was stabbing my hand while gutting a buck in 2018. Just got in a hurry and was using a small bladed knife with a very fine point, didn’t get my left hand out of the way before moving the knife and punched a 1/2” slice into my palm where the thumb joint is down to that knuckle. I can remember the blade bouncing off the bone and thinking “uh oh”. Applied pressure with my boggin to stop the bleeding, went to the hospital and got a few stitches.

Deadeye48 I had the exact same thing happen to me with the first Amacker stands that came out. Last I saw of that stand the tree had grown onto it. That was about 35 yrs ago.I bet it’s still there.

This didn't happen to me, but about 30 years ago on the Freedom Hills WMA a young man was putting a lock-on in a dead tree on a food plot. I had hunted this plot several times with my bow and climbing stand on the pines surrounding the plot. I know folks knew I was killing deer there because my truck was there several days a week and they wanted in on the action. It had rained that morning and was still a messy drizzle falling when I arrived to find a truck parked where I usually parked to hunt the plot. I slowly rolled past the parked truck and I saw a couple of young men running towards their parked truck. I stopped my truck and could see one of the men had a handkerchief wrapped around his right hand. They were in a mad dash to take the man to the hospital because one of his screw-in steps had come out of the dead tree as he was trying to hang the lock-on stand. When he fell his finger was caught on the stand and it tore his finger from his hand. They had put his finger in another handkerchief and were taking him to the hospital. I saw his hand as they rewrapped the rag around his hand and there was simply nothing there. I never heard from the outcome but I know his finger is missing from his hand today.

Dont ever try to climb a dead tree folks.

I can't stand a thief.
