The reason for this thread was to point out that the local news is reporting a decline in the turkey population Where would they be getting this information ? The answer is obvious
When I need expert advice I tend to talk to myself The older I get the better I used to be

Sounds like the later season may be working! You can’t help but to stir the pot a little…..
This is Aldeer! The place people come to vent their frustrations and completely change their stance a few minutes later...

I honestly don’t know the answer but I believe it revolves around the lack of timber management bye timber companies.
Would walk over a naked woman to get to a gobblin turkey!

More turkeys than we’ve had in a long time.
Hunting in KS for 8 days I saw hundreds of turkeys and a PILE of jakes, which will be this springs foolish two yr olds.
They cycle according to hatches, and we have seemingly had decent hatches the last two years. I havent seen the population around me this good since the early 90's. I had a group of 17 jakes last year and I saw one almost that big a couple days ago. I see birds every day and we have good acorns again, so they should be healthy come spring. The days of seeing multiple 100 bird groups I hope is coming back.

If they move the season to April they will make an outlaw out of me. I will not wait until April 1st to turkey hunt. It's almost that way now. Didn't it come in the 27'th last season?

Yall will wait til season comes in because you are not criminals. Imo I think you have misjudged a lot of the posters here. I often said that the 5 bird season limit only affected me and one other guy, and I was pretty sure the other guy was lying.

Steve, when I was working in south Alabama i only knew TWO turkey hunters CAPABLE of killing more than five a season that quit at five. It's always been very few who had the resources to do it at all, and dang few of them who would actually quit hunting when they did. And note that prior to retiring from my regular job in 99 I had only killed 3 limits. Gotta have good places to hunt, some measure of skill, and most of all, time to hunt them. Not many folks had all 3, and of the ones who did, most would just ignore an unenforceable season limit.
