I bought my wife a 380 EZ. I liked it so I bought me a 9mm. It’s a great option for someone with arthritis in their hands.

I have one of both as well. I ordered each a armalaser off Amazon and I and my wife really like it. It activates when you grip the pistol.

I always thought this J Frame would make a good gun for that application. They also make it in a shorter 2” barrel model. Depends on how she would carry it I suppose.

I would strongly suggest a revolver then, perhaps a Lady Smith, but if it is for home protection I always say a shotgun when asked.[/quote]

I would say a 38 revolver also Rossi or Lite SW. Low recoil HP. 20 gauge shotgun for the home.

Lots of recommendations. I'll hit things from a different angle. I've trained and / or been with numerous women during firearms training over my LE career. They are just as competent and capable as their male counterparts. Some more so. If I was going to set her up, I'd take her to a pro shop and let her pick out a pistol, of a reputable brand, that was ergonomically correct for her. Then, I'd get her signed up for some quality training. Training is key.

Agree 100%. A S&W Air Weight 38 is the best weapon for an unexperienced shooter. No functions to worry about going wrong. Super light and easy to conceal.

I have an Air weight and before gundoc performed some magic with the trigger (that was even too heavy to read on his gauge) i couldn't hit the broadside of a Barn lol.

A Smith hammerless revolver would be the right choice imo.

Lots of good ideas and suggestions here, gentlemen. Thank you.

She said herself yesterday that whatever she gets, she wants a safety & training course besides just shooting lots of rounds at targets out here in the yard. I told her that was very wise.

Look at the Ruger LCR 38 or 9mm, light weight, no frills, point and shoot. They are a great first CC

Revolver S&W 642. They are hammerless and easy to carry.
