When I first started hunting about 45 years ago, the guys I hunted with used fox pee, Pine Sol (yep) and one SWORE by Skunk scent.... UNTIL the time he took the bottle (it was like a paste) and laid it up on his dash (about a '78 model truck with heater/defrost vents ... while he was in the woods it warmed up, the paste "freed up" and started oozing out of the bottle because the top wasn't screwed all the way down and found it's way straight down the vents on his dash .... Guy rode by himself the rest of the season.... he showed up in a different truck the following seaason! .

I like to smell like nothing at all
No scent is the best scent
The least you can get their attention the better your hunt will be

You have to use liquid smoke suppositories for it to cover fart smell

EPIC rofl rofl rofl

I can’t help but picture one of these millennials pouring liquid smoke in his vape pen so he can “blow clouds” of cover scent
What a great idea!... rofl

Truth is nothing really works, or who really knows anyway. We’ve all got stories and been lucky and some deer are just dumber than others. Honestly - for me, I don’t mind getting smelt from time to time. If I thought they couldn’t smell, see or hear me - I wouldn’t be that excited about being successful. May as well just hunt them free range in the big pen.

I tried the fox pee for a month a few years ago. Gave up. Couldn't get past the taste of the stuff.

Deer have the ability to distinguish multiple scents at the same time. Covering one with another doesn't necessarilly hinder a deer's ability to smell what you're attempting to cover up. It would probably help to some extent but you're never gonna defeat a deer's nose entirely. I prefer trying to be as scent free as possible in combination with ozone technology while paying attention to the wind at my hunt location as well as the approach and exit.

Deodorant and dial soap. Deer can't smell either if you use the wind correctly

The goal should be to have your property set up to where the deer, for the most part, don't even know you've been there. No, the deer aren't gonna smell you if they're upwind, but you still are likely disturbing a large portion of the property on your approach and exit and while you hunt if you don't take any scent control measures whatsoever.

I like to set my stand up where i leave undetected - i shoot mature when i can do this. Many times the land scape does not allow - but if i can set my stand 50-70 yards off a green field it equals to - hunt the wind and its like u never hunted because u leave undetected. Hate deer all snorting when i leave - prefer undetected retreat

Just take a female companion during that time and the deer will come running. Look up the old thread for proof

I find using a medicine dropper to add a few drops of Tinks 69 to a fresh can of Copenhagen and spitting straight on the ground works pretty well.

Well I’ve finally figured it out
All these years of hunting and it has dawned on me how beat a deers nose
All it took was having the China virus for the fourth time and being layed up for two weeks and I’ve actually figured it out
I can say without a doubt not one deer has smelled me all this time I’ve been sick and at home

The only time that I had a deer (nice buck) to turn from straight down wind of me and bee line towards me stopping every 5 yards to scent check the air is when I had the stomach blow out while in the climber. Got the whites down just in time and sprayed the forest floor really good.

I'm a fan of smoke. When I stalk hunt, I typically light a leaf and pine needle fire in a pot at the truck...stand over it and smoke my clothes, face, hair, etc. I've had success with deer downwind multiple times and don't recall being blown at ever when smoking up. I skip the step when I'm climbing and playing a specific wind in certain locations where I'm not concerned what is downwind.
