First time i ever heard anything about Bessemer, it was when i was about 15yo and two boys in the grade below me got beat to death by a guy in Bessemer and the girl with them was buried alive in a shallow grave. I guess that just left a bad taste in my mouth for Bessemer. I try not to go there.

I grew up in Bessemer. Like anywhere , just know where to be and not to be. You’ll be fine in that area.

Oh good lord, you guys act like Bessemer is one of the Chicago or New York ghetto slums. They are not going to shoot your face off just because whitey showed up. I live in the Jones valley area, if your going to the area around the school it’s mostly Hispanic now anyway.

There are different areas of Bessemer. The term Bessemer encompasses a lot of territory.
Some areas are relatively safe. Others not so much.

When scheduling home inspections in areas of Bessemer, Brighton, Ensley, Birmingham and some other areas, we always schedule those for 8am whenever possible. The natives aren't really moving much at that time. By 10-10:30 they start waking up.
We keep our heads on swivels and I usually work as a team in those areas and we are all armed.

It really does depend on the exact areas.

For a bunch of open carry ain’t skeered of nothings y’all shore are a skeered a lot. Bessemer ain’t bad, I don’t think twice about any of it in the daytime and wouldn’t be afraid to do what I had to do in 90% of it unarmed at night. Most violence in Bessemer area is black on black in 3-4 small areas

The biggest problem with Bessemer is its proximity to several other high crime areas in the greater Birmingham area. Bad actors don't stay at home all the time.

Our office is in Bessemer and for some reason the local police sit in our parking lot a good bit, monitoring the area I guess. They tell that the crime in Bessemer is pretty bad. One actually said if you can live in Bessemer, you can live anywhere. I personally find that hard to believe. I’ve never had a single problem other than the occasional prostitute or panhandler approaching me. That said, as said above, there’s lots of “different” areas of, and around, Bessemer.

The only really bad areas are the Lipscomb side or around the pipe shop neighborhood.

If the cops see you there after dark they’re going to pull you over anyway because they would think you are trying to buy drugs
