I tracked a back whack deer earlier for a good friend. He is pretty much surrounded by houses and subdivision. Muzz struggled with it from the beginning but finally picked his head up and took off. I knew the deer had jumped up ahead of us by Muzzs reaction. He ran into a small triangle of hardwoods the ended at 231 hwy. I could see him 309 yards away and close to the highway so I toned him off. I hear something running and my buddy says it's my buck. Well he jumps a fence and lands 10 yards in front of us. He's looking back at Muzz and never noticed us. Shot looked to be 3 or 4 inches up from the base of the neck and barely missed completely going over the top. Had houses 40 yards away in the back ground and no way was I even considering shooting at him. He jumped 2 chain link fences and cut through a subdivision. Was still a pretty neat experience I guess

Ewwww damn......Probably lucky that didnt end up worse than it did. Sticks in the eye and stepping in stump holes seems to be two of the biggest hazards.

9 days later a piece of a tree bud from the stick in New Market popped out from behind my eye. What a relief
That hurts just thinking about it!!

Had another one today that I hope to get a call on tomorrow……Shot with a bow this morning around 7:30…..Shot was pretty low and back…..We tracked to him and jumped him around 3:45 this evening……He bayed up for the dogs several times but kept breaking and going farther before we could ever catch up…..He was headed for a paved road that stays pretty busy with logging trucks so we had to call it. He ended up skirting the edge of a big pond about 150 yards from the road and that’s where I toned the dogs off in hopes he beds up near the lake instead of jumping the road……The hunter is supposed to go back in the morning and check it out.

That’s a beautiful stand of timber. I sure hope I live long enough to see my place look like that. It was just planted in containerized Longleaf last week.
