Just made it home after being stuck for 45 minutes. Turns out an older man hit a schoolbus just up from the gas station on 12. The police I talked to said the front bumper was pushed up and into the front of the car crushing his legs. They had to cut him out of the vehicle and carry him to Shelby County Airport to meet the life flight. Traffic is backed up all the way back to the intersection of Old Smokey Rd. I'd stay away from that area. I65 is backed up heading northbound at the airport exit as far south as you can see. I65 south from Alabaster was backed up too. Prayers for the old man. I hope he makes it. The officer I spoke to said he was "very messed up" and wouldn't make it via an ambulance.
