I’m thinking of hunting down there this year. I started a new job in Montgomery and it’s fairly close. Was wondering if anyone had any tips on hunting there. Or maybe someone would like to get together and hunt together.

2 of the biggest racked bucks I ever seen was down there. At the end of south road “I think that’s the road name” you parked and walked down another old road, walked around a curve and a plot was at the end of that road. I was walking in about 1:30 in the evening, easer around that curve and there was two studs in the plot. Just feeding and walking, watched em for few minutes and they fed off. Walked on in, set yo couple hundred yards off the backside of that plot. Saw deer and hogs, enjoyed the hunt sure enough. First weekend of November. That was 12 or so years ago and haven’t been back. Always say I’m gonna go back, but just haven’t.

Always felt like a bicycle would work good there. Lots of flat land and good roads best of my memory. That palmetto is loud walking through. Probably take some limb shears to make a ground set up if you can’t find a good tree to climb, fair amount of cover in them thickets.

That may have been the case 12 years ago but these days you won’t find a deer in the plots and definitely not on south road past the first or second week of bow season. If I was still hunting it, I would take South Road until it dead ends into the plot Bucks talking about take the well used trail at the end of it towards the creek and branch off somewhere down there and scout my ass off but it seems like everybody likes to hunt south road.. Cameras will be your friend, I ran as many as I could afford to and mounted them as high as I could pointing down. Have not hunted it since the newer acquisition of property up by the river. Good luck

I’ve heard there was a very real problem with hogs there. But how is the deer population and is there a preference to which tract is probably the best for putting a little deer meat in the freezer?

What would you mean theGo down for the Jan 18 gun hunt, it's always good hunting. We have a group of 5 that always goes. Last year everyone of us tagged out on bucks.

Take snake chaps crazy laugh

Ain't been in probably 15 years myself. It's a 2.5 hour drive south for us, and life just got in the way as we got older. I remember it being easy to find sign, not as easy to kill the deer.
I would go during the week and bow hunt (ideally as far removed from a gun hunt as possible), that place gets thrashed pretty badly on a gun hunt.

Killed two pigs and one doe there during those trips we made, all bow hunting. Saw a lot of deer, but just never could line the stars up.
We grew fond of Jake Rd (first road on left coming in from White Hall)...as long as you were the first one there, you could be landlocked and have the place to yourself (sometimes). We'd usually all drive separately so we could park at the gate and appear like it was "crowded" already with multiple trucks grin
But good grief, I saw doggone rattlesnakes seemingly half the times we'd go in there. I hunted off the back of a plot one time and there appeared to be some sort of old hog trap or some kind of very old collapsed building in that spot (like maybe umpteen forevers ago there was a homeplace there). Well, that old structure had tin, and I watched a ginormous rattler come out from under that tin one afternoon and go into a cluster of palmettos just a few feet from my tree. As far as I know it was still there when I came down at dark...I was nervous to say the least.

We were on the edge of Eternia, when the power of Greyskull began to take hold.

Rode down there this morning after work. Didn’t put no feet on the ground yet jus locating a couple of places. One thing about it there’s no shortage of oaks there. It looks like I will be walking the soles off my snake boots this year.

I hunt a few miles east of there and we have a healthy snake population. Lot of nice deer in the area
