I don’t blame them for not wanting to give workman’s comp all their profits

I got hurt a couple times at work when i worked for a tree service years ago. First of all i couldnt pass a drug test. Second was the workmans comp deal. I went to the ER and told them i got hurt on my own time. My boss paid the bill. Worked out ok for everybody.

I’ve never fell off of a roof before. Always been too scared to get on one in the first place. But, if I did I imagine I’d be more sore and stove up in the next several days than I would in the moment that the accident occurred. I think that’s why some people do an about face and want to sue people.

In this case if everything was witnessed and recorded I think the OP will be fine. Gravity never loses. Lol.

A roofer workman's comp rate is probably over 20%. No body want to pay it pay it but it's the only protection a owner has. Just because a company has a sign on there truck saying they they are bonded and insured don't mean they have Workmans comp insurance. Most don't.

I always thought that "bonded and insured" meant that they were covered if they damaged your property and it had to be repaired or replaced and they filed a claim to cover the damages. It never occurred to me that it meant they paid worker's comp.

A bond is a certain amount of money put up by a company to pay for whatever might happen. That doesnt exist for small jobs, small companies. Insured is liability insurance, which is lawsuit insurance pretty much. It dont cover the workers, more or less just the property. It may cover certain damages including a worker injuring someone. Workmans comp covers the workers.

That goes along with what I was thinking originally then.

I'm thinking they didn't want osha involved. A few years ago osha has them all wearing harnesses around here.

I would not have cancelled the ambulance. it happened on your property.

I roofed one house in my life with a couple of buddies. Pulling off the old shingles, I fell off the roof. I was young so I lived.

Life is a journey. Make sure and bring plenty of Beer.

My luck has been so bad lately, it could be raining pussies and I'd catch one with a dick broke off in it.

Guy died falling off the roof on my cuzzins house he was building. What was worse for cuz is it was a team of two brothers who built big very custom homes he had waited for a long time. When one brother died the other quit the job and left cuz in a bind. The guy went up the sunny side of the roof one morning and failed to realize the other side was still frosty

False! The ER doesn't give a rats ass about your drug screen in that situation. Obtaining a urine drug screen would be the last thing an ER was worried about in that situation. The ER would be worried about your brain and C-spine. All the ER would do is stabilize your C-spine, monitor your vital signs, get basic blood work, and do a CT scan from your head all the way down your spinal cord. And X-ray everything you said hurt. Even if you did have a urine collected at the ER the hospital can't give the results of the test to the company with out the patients consent or a court order because of HIPPA laws. If the company wants their employee to have a drug test they have to set that up out patient, that is not the ERs job.

With that being said. I completely agree about having them sign something to avoid liability and I would have not canceled the Ambulance I would have made him refuse transport. And if any of you fall off a roof and lose consciousness please GO TO THE ER, EVEN IF YOU CAN'T PASS A DRUG SCREEN!!!

I think you need to request a copy of their insurance showing they have workers comp coverage.

That's one of the things workers comp companies love to ding their customers with. You hire a subcontractor, if you can't prove they have workers comp coverage, you pay for coverage even if there was no injury. And the more risky the job, the higher the mod rating, and the more you pay.

Insurance is a scam, they never lose.

The 911 operator heard them say to cancel it while my wife was on the phone. It's recorded

Call and have the 911 supervisor pull and save that call. If the retention period is not long enough the recorded call could disappear before any litigation comes up.

I'd probably go the other route than alot of the suggestions in here. I wouldn't call no one (alfa) or have them sign anything, or even posted a thread on it. I wouldn't even talk about it to them anymore and act like it never happened, because it didn't. I'd be like naw, aint nobody fell off my roof, I don't even have a roof.
