What are some of the deer hunting advice you've given to young hunters to see if they would try it or take it seriously? If there are a few good stories told here it could make camp a little funner this year for someone. Of course some stories are better for specific age ranges.

I used to tell them to walk backwards to the stand so when the deer saw their tracks, they would think they had already left the stand.

I also told a few that I like to carry a walnut in my mouth while I climb so any deer in the area think I'm just a big squirrel. Then I come back down the tree head first.

One guy would tell them they can age a deer by the length of their tail, by the # of fingers long it was. He would show them and as they were doing it themselves, when the got near the base, He'd grab their hand like he was going to shove their finger up the deers poop chute.

We had a guy that had a glass doe in heat bottle that he had emptied and ran through the dish washer and filled it back up with tea. He used to tell the younger kids they were supposed to drink it to get the best effects and would drink the whole bottle in front of them. Always freaked the kids out.

Kind of off topic, but your post reminded me of this. There used to be an old man that liked to park at the same place I did at Choccolocca back in the 1990s. As far as I know he didn't drink at all, but when he got out of his truck he would put a whiskey bottle with a little bit of colored water in it on the dash or the hood of his truck. Nice old guy. First time I met him I was there first and he politely got out introduced himself and asked if I minded him hunting the area if he would go off the other side from me. I told him that I didn't own any of that land and that there is plenty of it for the both of us. Then he pulled out the bottle and showed me what it actually was in it. I have seen a few people pull up, get out, see the bottle, and then after a short discussion with their buddy, get back in their truck and leave. So the bottle had the effect of lessening pressure on the area. I believe he and the GWs at that time were friends and they seemed to have no problem with the bottle.

I think I can still see that expression on my face.
Getting some Redman around age 6 and not being told what to do with it left a mark as well.

Come in camp after all others are in. When you get there go in act scared to death locking doors freaking out make a good story. Biggest thing you ever seen huge never going back in the woods. But you dropped you back pack. See if any kids will go with you. You’re not going alone. Y’all get flashlights let’s go.

That or stage someone outside of camp with a Sasquatch call. (Empty coffee can with a wet shoestring drawn through a nail hole in the bottom) It makes an eerie sound. See if you can convince a few of them to wall out with you to investigate.

Old school, cutting shirt tails of those that missed one. Had mine cut a time or two.

Not really related but reminded of a story. One of my dads friends was in the hospital. The breakfast meal included apple juice. Not long after breakfast was brought in the nurse came by and wanted a urine sample. She left the room so he could do his thing. He filled the cup up to the brim in apple juice. Nurse came back in and said “wow, you really had to go!” He said “ Is that too much? Well here” and promptly picked up the cup and drank half of it and said “Is that enough?” Nurse about fainted. Lol.

My dad had a young fella that worked with him that had deer hunted some and was wanting to get into turkey hunting. They got him to go into the local sporting goods store on his lunch break and ask for a bottle of turkey in heat.
