Any of you have any experience with these? My lady friend is looking to get one for her dad’s house to keep up with who’s visiting. He’s in his 80s, has a touch of dementia, and has a hard time remembering who comes by. Sometimes she goes in to find a casserole dish or other food, but doesn’t know who brought it. Other arrangements will need to be made eventually, but for now, she’d like to be able to see his visitors. He does have Wi-Fi but no current doorbell. Thoughts?

Are there better options for what she’s trying to do?

Ring is super easy to set up. Just have to have Wi-Fi.
The inside cameras are much cheaper than the doorbell. If she wants to put a couple of those up you can catch them on Amazon for around $40 each.

I put some Eufy cameras up at a friends house and they work well.
They went with Eufy to avoid the Amazon / Ring. I think at 80 it isn't going to make much difference though. Ring should be fine. They did a doorbell and camera in the kitchen to monitor the rear entrance etc.

Blink system is great. Got one last month for 188. 5 cameras and sync module. Has audio and 2 way communication. Of course you must have wifi

Outside is fine, but won't have 'em in the house...

Ring had a little bit of a scandal recently with folks that work at the company constantly monitoring attractive women cams. Especially their bedroom cams.

Not that that's an issue here.

There are also WiFi cams that screw into porch light fixtures.

I myself went with the reolink solar WiFi cams. I like them.

There's a lot of cheap options. I got a couple of the baby monitor cams for inside the house. Supposedly you can turn them on/off. But who knows.

We have a ring doorbell and 1 camera in the living room. You have to subscribe to a monthly plan to keep the recorded videos for review. Otherwise you just get a notification there is movement or if someone presses the doorbell. So if you don’t subscribe then you just have a live view or prompted when doorbell is pressed.

They might think twice when they see a shriveled up old man pissing of the porch. 🤣

Thanks for the input, guys. Still trying to decide which way to go. Seems like they are all about the same. My parents use Arlo, and it works pretty good too. Thanks!

A Ring is nothing but an ip camera, search them online Amazon, ebay, there’s better. You can get a better lenses, signal, control, and quality.

We have a ring.
You can get them with just a camera or so you can talk to someone at the door.
Ap is very easy to use.

I put our's up with double sided nano tape 2 years ago and haven't had any problem with it. Needs recharging from time to time........

I know they are pretty cool but, I have delivered dozens of citations after ringing one and not once has anyone spoken to me. Maybe my uniform

blink system. Doorbell and 4 cams. Get a decent usb storage drive and don’t pay the monthly.

Same here. But I need to wire the cams up to electricity. The batteries are killing me.
