So here is the situation. I’m creating 2 fields and have one existing one that need elevated shooting houses. Part of me wants to build 3 shooting houses (never done it but have helped put together others and have friends that would help) though my time is limited and not worth multiple weekends at camp building and putting them up etc. My other option is to buy. Yes, Sc3 is what a lot of people recommend but I hunted out of an sc1 or 2 I think and was not impressed. No, I don’t have redneck blind money but interested in other options. These stands have to be able to fit 2 or 3 people as I’m doing all this to accommodate my son or a buddy to sit with.

1. How much to build a 4x6 with deer view windows and well built?
2. What are some other options for elevated enclosed 2-3 man blinds?

Build a solid elevated platform and put a good pop up blind on top of it. Use eyebolts for tie downs.

Check out 360 Blinds.

The SC3 is a nice blind for the money IMO. What did you not like? They can be made much more quiet if that was an issue. I like the solid seamless construction and ease of installation. The windows are cheap and can be upgraded on the SC4.

I really haven’t given the sc3 a chance. The one I hunted out of was too loud and yep the windows were lacking. I had a buddy big time into the 360 blinds. Will check those out as well.

Strips of felt on the window latches and door latch with a plywood bottom covered in carpet flooring and it’s good to go.

I think it all comes down to the exterior of the blind. If properly built and used sheet metal they last a long time. I framed one out like a house on 16” centers, and the hole 9 yards. I probably had a grand in it but it was built to my liking and is my favorite shooting house to this day. You could get away with framing it out much wider and using sheet metal with an angled flat roof for pretty cheap. I overbuilt mine but I expect to still be there for 30 years. It’s honestly however you want to do it. Mine was 6 ft long by 8 ft wide and 6 ft at the corners. More like 8 ft in the center because I built a standard A framed roof like a house.

I just finished building the 3rd one in 2 years. This last one was 4x8 and made building it a lot easier because of dimensions. I built it in 6 panels plus the base and roof, in the garage at night. It was caulked, disassembled and painted before it made the trip to its home. The 4x4 brackets make it way too easy to move. Just needs anchoring in the field after it’s elevated and braced.

Im fixin to build a 6x8 on our new property. I already have most of the wood and tin. Have to buy posts, plexiglass and insulation. Dont really have the time to do it but ill figure that part out. I reckon what im wanting would cost $2000 or better and i sure dont want to spend that. Need to use this lumber i have piled up before the termites get it too.

(6) sheets treated plywood-240.00, (14) 2x4x12 lodge pole-90.00, (4) 4x4x8 treated legs-60.00, (2) 12' sheets tin-60.00, (10) 2x4x10 treated for legs a bracing-50.00, (3) 1x4x12 treated to strip out for tin on top of plywood roof-12.00, cost of plexiglass will depend on how many windows you need, angled leg bracket set-100.00, framing gun nails, couple pounds screws. hinges, stitch screws, couple tubes adhesive, call it 40.00. add some sales tax, it can be done for around 750.00 if you have nothing. I don't paint, every couple years we remove the widows and fill up a cheep pump up sprayer with coppertox and drench them. Also get a few t-posts to anchor the legs down. BTW, wasps and ladybugs hate coppertox.

I used to build some very nice houses out of lumber. A 4x8 will accommodate 3 adults comfortably. Make sure the inside is over 6’ tall for standing room. Lumber is high now so buying one prepaid may be a better route. I sold mine for 900-600$ back when I had plenty of lumber and time. 2x4 8’ treated boards were $1.50 back then. Not now. Make a 2’ door as well.

It be's that way sometimes.

Here's one of mine, we have 3 like this . They are 5X8 , sliding plexi glass windows on tracks , "stairs" with metal exterior doors . Low nap carpet on the floors and carpeted shooting shelf across the front . I'd bet all new material now would run $1,000 or more. I've seen some built in shops , then set in place with FEL. Site built are nice but the logistics is a pain.

This is what I will be buying this year. I had a couple of SC3s and really liked them except for the fact that they are extremely hot anytime it gets above 50 degrees. I am heat intolerant.

You can spend a lot on the blinds, I went with the Tidewe. The better built blinds may give you some added insulation. There are tips on youtube on how to help you blackout the blinds.

We have used this type setup in two of our fields, they work fine. We built the platform to allow access from below rather than unzipping and trying to climb out.

Most houses I’ve built have lasted 20+ years. The only problem with buying one is there’s always something you would have done different. If I had the time I’d build every time. Window height and location is my biggest complaint.

Platform with rails & a popup over it.

I use 2x6's for the floor. Much quieter moving around. Doesn't cost much more. Leave ~1/4" gaps for dirt to fall between boards, stays cleaner.

A key is scent control with these small properties…I wouldn’t think the ground blind would contain scent like an enclosed blind would. Plus the blinds are not cheap and wouldn’t last as long as a well built blind or pre made one

The windows on the SC 3 are to tall for kids in my opinion, they told me when I called that the SC 4 has lower windows.

I built several like these
[Linked Image]
[Linked Image]

And set them on some utility poles. They have sliding plexiglass windows on some, some also have blinds that lift up by a wire and hook

[Linked Image]

I bought this one this morning from a guy down the road. It’s on a trailer and can be moved around, which I like. I’ll probably do something with the windows and door. I don’t necessarily need the full size doors and windows, they had it built as more of a watching blind than a killing blind lol

[Linked Image]

I don’t remember how much I’ve got in the built ones, but I bet I couldn’t build them again for that cost, or buy some of the same quality for the cost.
