I have 02SEP-01OCT. I’ll take a half day off here and there but I got my son and 2 guys coming in from Base Pt Mugu for a week as well. I may chase these 2 a little when taking it easy. Depends on pressure

Thanks. Those pics above are just for my spots I consider easy hunts but, not as fun as running and gunning on the timberlands.
Bulls are already rounding up the cows so, could be fun from day 1, we'll see.

I am going rifle hunting in CO in late October. Going to be a camping/hunting trip so it should be fun as long as we don't freeze our asses off! Last time I went, year before last, we went 3-for-3 on bulls. Public ground so I don't expect that same success rate this time. As long as we have fun and safe hunt killing an elk is nothing but a bonus as far as I'm concerned. Good luck to all of you that plan on going!

I've wanted to elk hunt for 50 years but money and time have never been on my side. One of the most depressing feelings I've ever felt because I know I'll never get the opportunity.

It doesn't cause that much $ to go on public land over the counter . Get in shape and go West young man!

Well I wish it was that easy but knees and back put limitations on the physical part now and wife can't work because of health reasons. And on top of that I'm the only child my 83 yr old failing health mother has while she's alive, if you get that point. Not to mention I had to get custody of my youngest daughter last year so she would be safe and now starting college. Getting old sucks because you can see all the stupid mistakes you made or failed opportunities you didn't take advantage of but who said life was fair.

I’m seriously thinking about going myself. I’ve always to go but never have. I’m thinking about the OTC on some public. Don’t know anything about elk hunting so I’ve been studying up on it lol

Since I'm not gonna guide when I could be hunting or buy a guide license, I should rent out my tent and a bike with a map for 2K every year lol.

I've been 4 times to Colorado, OTC tags, public land, DIY. Four of us, split gas and food. Spent around $700/trip...1990 money. Killed two nice 5X5s in last two trips.

Do a LOT of research, make phone calls, get yer Alabama ass in shape. That high altitude is killer at first, better shape you are in the faster you will acclimate to it.

I've spent most of the money I've made in my lifetime on hunting and fishing. The rest I just wasted.....

If you hunt public, the tag is the most expensive part. You can easily go for $1500 on public sharing gas, camping out, and eating sammiches. I’m going to Idaho September 7-17, so hopefully this will be my year to get it done. I”be been close a bunch of times, but up close with a bow is a lot easier on tv
