Just checked mine and they are bare. Wonder if the cold snap got them. Anyone else have this problem

Checked about 40 trees yesterday, white oaks, persimmons, swamp chestnuts and water oaks. The only trees that appeared to have anything were water oaks. I’m assuming the cold snap from April or whenever but a hurt on most trees.

That late freeze we had did a number on sawtooth. Most of the native oaks fared well and are carrying acorns. I saw that freeze completely defoliate entire stands of sawtooth in north AL.

I have a few sawtooth and they looked like they are going to bear well this season.

I'd always opt for the native oaks/native hybrid oaks. I know most are sourced from nurseries in the states, but we definitely don't want a situation with the oaks similar to the one with the chestnut blight of the early 1900s.

I cut all mine down (Asian Sawtooth). They had a lot of acorns at first and then between fungus and blight they struggled to stay alive. There is a reason that things that are native fare better. Excluding of course kudzu, cogon grass, fire ants, chine tallow (popcorn), etc.

Mine have been great for the deer, no questions about it. They have tons of acorns nearly ever year, but not this year. Frost got my blueberries this year too.
