Anyone have any real world opinions on the 3.0 LM2 duramax? This would be 2022 year models and prior. Looking at a 2022 Sierra 1500 AT4 with the 3.0. What’s the good bad and ugly?

Got a few friends with them and they love them. Great MPG, good power, and easy on DEF. I thought about one, but not a big diesel fan with the DEF, so went 6.2. It loves gasoline, but will go.

I have a ‘21 and it’s the first diesel I’ve ever owned. I’ll be hard pressed to go back to a gas burner.

I average around 18-19 mpg around town on 34’s (lots of stop/go) and the power/torque is very impressive. I’ve gotten as much as 26 on the interstate but don’t do a lot of interstate driving.

I don’t know if the mpg makes up for the difference in fuel cost, I didn’t buy it for that, but it’s a nice bonus for a truck that pulls as well as it does.

Yeah, I average about 13-14 in town on 34s, without AFM/DFM. Definitely more fuel efficient with the diesel. Supposed to run 93 with the 6.2, which is about the price of diesel if not more expensive. I don’t run it all the time, but do a good bit.

When my 21’ 6.6 went down a guy with a 22’ 3.0 was at dealership and his was not running. Maybe just a coincidence. But I’ve had two bad duramax in a row. Both 6.6.

My 16’ had three oil leaks and my 21’ is having injector issues. It has left me stranded twice. Maybe just bad luck

My coworker has one as her work truck. Has about 75k miles. Now problems so far. Pulls good and gets great mileage. I have the dodge eco boost I feel like it has less power but it will get 30mpg on the freeway with summer fuel. At 80mpg. Our trucks are stock quad cabs short bed. Stock height 4x4. I wouldn’t be afraid to buy either truck

I'm on my 2nd 3.0 Duramax and I think it's a fantastic engine. Smooth, powerful and great mileage. I'm averaging 23.5 to 24 mpg on my daily driving and get 26+ mpg on the road. This is with OEM tires and I have a lead foot. My last truck was leveled and had larger tires which does cut the mileage.

I went from a 2020 gmc with 6.2 to a 2022 with the 3.0. The 6.2 has the power but also has the problems to go along with it. Not many problems associated yet with the 3.0 but we will see. I love it and would buy the 3.0 before I buy another gas burner from gm unless they solve the lifter problems unless you gonna can it as soon as warranty is up. I have 34 inch tires and averaged 25mpg on interstate and around 19-20 in town.

I have a 23 LZ0 3.0 and so far it has been great. It has very good power and great for towing.

I’ve got a ‘21 3.0 and it is my favorite engine I’ve had in a truck. Routinely get 19-21 mpg with 35’s and a lift. Can’t say enough great things about it

Good point on the more fuel expense versus miles per gallon.
The oil change expense is also higher I believe?

Regardless, the diesel trucks are great work trucks!!

I have a ‘23 with the LZ0. I average 26-28 mpg just running around and have gotten as much as 33 mpg on highway trips. I did have a short in a wire a week after I bought it but no issues since then and I love it.

Went to Tuscaloosa today and picked up an AT4 with the 3.0 duramax. Time will tell, but I think I’ll like it.

Got a 22 I just turned 57 thousand miles. So far great with zero issues and great fuel mileage driving it hard. Now I’m just running stock tires

I got a 2021 6.6 Duramax and I love it, but it only has 16000 miles. As far as expense the oil change is a little more and the fuel filter is 45 bucks every 15 or so thousand miles. I will never go back to gas only drawback is my mileage which is 15.5 stop and go and 17.5 on the interstate. If I had to get another truck it would be this 3.0 Duramax
