It was around 8pm last night and I was in Andalusia driving down River Falls Street headed toward downtown (for those familiar) and I thought I was seeing things at first, but I was not. I watched someone on a horse cross the street up ahead of me and head down the sidewalk on my side of the street. As I got closer I noticed it was a black gentleman wearing a ball cap and a reflective vest. Not far behind were two younger, I am guessing in their early teens, black kids on bicycles a little ways behind him. I have no clue if they were "with" him or not or if they were just as intrigued about the situation as I was when I saw him.
My thoughts were that I was totally cool with horses being ridden in town on the slower speed limit streets, but that if they were going to be ridden in town, on the road or on the sidewalk especially, that they needed to be outfitted with a poop catcher. I highly doubt the city would be very excited about having to send employees out to clean that up on a regular basis.
I have no idea where he came from or where his end destination was and there is only a couple of ways that he could have come into town without having to cross a seriously busy multi-lane road.
Way back when I used to ride horses, the thought of riding near the road horrified me. I guess I was always concerned that the horse would spook and in addition to whatever injuries were incurred by the unplanned dismount that I would also be squished by a motor vehicle.

Used to ride to the Christmas parade from the house. Even went through the drive thru a couple times. It is a usual site around Amish communities...they have buggy parking at Walmart. The Cowboy Church has folks that ride to church pretty regular.

They haven't come through in a while but a group of black horse riders used to some through here every weekend. I would let them cut through my yard. They still ride them in the Christmas parade every year.

The Stuart boys used to ride horses to Foley high several times a year to keep up the family tradition. The horses were tied up under a big oak tree by the principles office and got a months of petting in one day. Mr Mesick was a great principal.

I have seen horseback riders in the parades in town and I have seen folks riding them along the sides of country roads around here. There has even been a horse and buggy giving rides down town around Valentine's Day and Christmas. But other than that I haven't seen them in town before last night. But with the cost of motor vehicles these days I can understand why we may see more of both horse riders and bicyclists in lots of places.

Believe it or not, but I saw quite a few horse riders in Las Angeles a few weeks ago down near SOFI stadium.

Believe it or not, but I saw quite a few horse riders in Las Angeles a few weeks ago down near SOFI stadium. Was it police or security working the parking lot at the stadium? I have seen that before in large parking areas.

Saw a few last year on a deer hunting trip down around eufaula riding along the highway. Used to ride about every day growing up I sure miss it. Craziest place I’ve seen a horse ridden was through the brass monkey bar in Livingston one night came in the back door and went out the front. I’m still amazed no one got stomped on that night the place was packed lol.

Feller I know was in trouble with the law and had his license pulled. He'd ride his horse anywhere he wanted , including bar hopping on Saturday.

Not security, they all stopped and got jack in the box then headed toward LAX. Also, they were a couple of different ethnicities riding together.
