Cahaba shrinks every year. There's a club(s) that gobbles up more leases every year. Just before this past turkey season they put a gate up on CR260 near the Brantleyville entrance to WMA. CR 260 washed out at Jesse Creek at the other end a couple of years ago and noone seems interested in repairing it. Some other club gated Landview a year or so ago. How does a hunt club, lease or no lease get away with putting a gate on a county road. They have effectively cut off what used to be "B side" of Cahaba WMA. How and to who would I even protest this to, let alone get the gate removed. Pointless to talk to the club because they put it up and knew what they were doing when they did it. I have respected their lease for the last 5 or so years, even considered joining their club but didn't, but I've never set one foot on their lease but this is some bs and I'm reconsidering my position on the matter. I'm all about capitalism and I'm not against their right to lease property even if it was formerly WMA but they've basically stolen access to probably 10k-15k acres of public hunting land by putting a gate up on a county road. If they want to make it official and go ahead and lease the rest of "B side" then fine, I still don't like it but that's the marketplace, but denying access to public land to anyone who doesn't have a gate key is some dirty, thieving, bs.

Call the game warden or state fish and game and report it. Yeah that doesn't sound right.

Doesn’t sound legal and if I wanted to hunt that area I would be calling the State to see what the deal is and why this is happening.

My understanding is beyond the gate is not a county maintained road, therefore the owner has the right to gate it if they want too. The county has an agreement in place that reopened the road that goes between CR260 and Hwy 22. It's the left turn just before the gate.
