Goatkiller’s comments are spot on. If you have the education and drive/work ethic to have your kids learn at home then go for it. If you barely got out of high school with passing grades then maybe teaching your kid advanced math may not be in your skill level.
Side note, I always hear about school indoctrination and teaching my kids how I see fit. I get that to a point, but do you really think the goal of public education is to turn your kid into a LGBTQ+ lover and hate God? You are the parents that can raise your child how you see fit. Keeping your kid sheltered at the dinner table for 18 years then that kid goes to college or the job force and the real world comes at them all at once, that’s a lot for a kid that doesn’t have the experiences to react emotionally to the world in a positive way. The experiences of life, good/bad/evil provide wisdom for the future. As a parent, we can only guide them and show them the “right” way for so long. That kid has to fly the coup eventually. Just pray they can make the right decisions based on what you taught them in life.
Great great post! I need to put my son in situations where he feels the need to fight. He needs to be bullied by some older kids. I want him to have the opportunity to say no to drugs. I also want him to be able to run onto the field while the band plays the fight song. He needs to be around blacks, gays, mexicans, jews, girls, lesbians, etc... because that's the world he will live in. Middle school and high school allows me to help him navigate those waters.... noting I can do when he is 19-25 and moved out.

There are plenty of morons in the teaching profession but not everyone is a good teacher. So that's one thing. Your wife might not be very good at it. There are many people I have seen "home school" their kids that could possibly be the biggest pack of dumbasses I've ever come across. Like riding around during the school day with their kids in a minivan with drool all over the inside glass. I've seen'em. Others on here have seen them too.
That's what a lot of people picture in their heads when someone says " home schooling".
So that's the other major issue in my mind. Education is very important in my opinion. If you've got parents that haven't achieved in life and are not well educated teaching kids... that's going to create a Nation of stupid people. That's not good for our Country in general. And that is taking away from the kids on some level and very possibly denying them the American Dream. That American dream doesn't always rest solely on hard work. Education is a major part of it in my book. I grew up poor and education and hard work got me to where I am today. Education being the most important piece of that equation. I can honestly make the statement that everything I learned in school my parents could have never taught me from the dinning room table. There is no way.
That's just something to chew on. The "Teacher" should have to display that they are competent themselves. Cry foul and say your kids 3rd grade teacher is an Idiot all you want but she/he/it/they/shim... whatever most likely has a degree in teaching. If you could barely make an 18 on your ACT I'm not sure you should be teaching your kids how to read.
I mean.... that might be someone you know.
All that said... I've got immediate family that home schools their kids and they are both very well educated and their kids have done fine.... even though I was skeptical. I’m pretty sure one reason government got involved was to make sure our country could be more advanced. Education is the foundation for a strong economy. What sucks is the left figured out and commandeered the system to tweak it to their own desires I’d hate to be a parent these days
