Honestly. It shouldn't be the states business at all how you educate your kids.
Tje bigger the education system gets the worse it gets.

Not to mention teaching your kids things that should be illegal without your consent.

Homeschool isn’t something I’m super familiar with when it comes to the logistics (though my wife and I have discussed this as an option to be considered later as our child approaches school age).
Frankly, most degenerate parents don’t want their kids at home with them all day. Public schools are free daycare to them, and their child’s performance is not something they really care about until it comes time for them to have to pay up for summer school or unless their kid is getting kicked out of school (that rarely happens now).

Ultimately we could partially fund school vouchers just by eliminating the federal department of education and taking their 195 billion dollar budget and dividing it amongst every student. I’d rather the states have control over the public school than have the feds controlling education.

Well stated. Thanks.

I’ve never really understood how the voucher system is supposed to work. Can some one enlighten me on it?

In the past 50 years the number of administrators versus teachers has flipped. Heck it’s almost like there’s more administrators than teachers these days.
Universities really have outdone themselves.

No. The government never did anything better than private organizations. It’s a personal choice to homeschool kids, send them to private school, or public school. They each have costs.

No, I’m not a fan of BROAD scale home schooling. Way more failures than successes. It seems to be either great success or none at all.

Thats normally the goal, you get government money they get a say in the curriculum and get to monitor how and when you do things. The financial cost of homeschooling is a little but it doesn't compare to the cost of letting the public school system train up your children.

I would be for it but I would want testing so parents aren't just taking money and not worrying about the kids.

At the end of the day, I assume the kid has to pass a state sanctioned test to get a diploma or GED.

I don’t care how they get the education to pass that test. I don’t care how old they are when they pass that test. Just pass it and become a productive member of society.

But when we don’t get the passing numbers the bureaucrats want, they just lower the passing criteria. And I really don’t care about any kids education until it affects me. The number of slow drivers in the left lane, panhandlers, inmates, and political activists are all indicators of a poor education system to me.

It would simply be throwing money in a different direction than the current direction we’re throwing it now. I don’t see a problem with it, but I don’t see the action of homeschool vouchers solving any problems.

It’s worth a try though.

There's a lot of myths put out about home schooling..usually by the teachers unions.
It's ironic, the more government gets involved the worse things get as far as education goes..
I dont think there's enough folks that want real freedom in this country.
We've been conditioned to think government will make things better.

Jmudler for the Win. If your going to let the Government in, might as well leave them in Public. Kinda of Defeating the Purpose.

There are plenty of morons in the teaching profession but not everyone is a good teacher. So that's one thing. Your wife might not be very good at it. There are many people I have seen "home school" their kids that could possibly be the biggest pack of dumbasses I've ever come across. Like riding around during the school day with their kids in a minivan with drool all over the inside glass. I've seen'em. Others on here have seen them too.

That's what a lot of people picture in their heads when someone says " home schooling".

So that's the other major issue in my mind. Education is very important in my opinion. If you've got parents that haven't achieved in life and are not well educated teaching kids... that's going to create a Nation of stupid people. That's not good for our Country in general. And that is taking away from the kids on some level and very possibly denying them the American Dream. That American dream doesn't always rest solely on hard work. Education is a major part of it in my book. I grew up poor and education and hard work got me to where I am today. Education being the most important piece of that equation. I can honestly make the statement that everything I learned in school my parents could have never taught me from the dinning room table. There is no way.

That's just something to chew on. The "Teacher" should have to display that they are competent themselves. Cry foul and say your kids 3rd grade teacher is an Idiot all you want but she/he/it/they/shim... whatever most likely has a degree in teaching. If you could barely make an 18 on your ACT I'm not sure you should be teaching your kids how to read.

I mean.... that might be someone you know.

All that said... I've got immediate family that home schools their kids and they are both very well educated and their kids have done fine.... even though I was skeptical.

No government employees were harmed in the making of this mess.

Nope, go to public school or pay for it yourself. I don’t like government handing out money, that isn’t their job.

Agreed. My wife spoke at several republican groups, in opposition to the last one they wanted to pass. It was in the bill that you had to use preferred vendors if you got the money. Foot in the door, then what? CRT, BLM? Government involvement is not good. Many, including ourselves, chose the homeschool path for a reason.

I am a no, primarily because I don't support homeschooling. Going to school was one of the best experiences of my life, I can't imaging a child who wants to stay at home with their parents all day. I strongly believe homeschool children really want to be "in school". But I also support a parents right to homeschool, just not for me or my kids.
