There may have been similar threads that I have missed. Was there some counties in North Alabama that have had closed Turkey Seasons before?

Lauderdale was closed for a long period opened back up in mid 90's if I remember right. Started with a one week season at end of April in counties west of cty rd 8 if memory serves me right. Never got to hunt Lauderdale for Turkeys as a kid. Population rebounded greatly and they opened again, Gobblas running everywhere, 90s were a great time to be a turkey hunter not many hunters and no social media to speak of.

Morgan was closed for a while, I believe, 20ish years ago, or part of it. I think it was the eastern half, east of I-65, that was closed, and the western portion was open only for a short time.

Turkey hunting was incredible around these parts. You know where I hunted. LOL If I recall correctly Colbert was closes for about 10 years and Lauderdale about 25. Mitch put together some data that he felt showed opening too early caused the population decline that led to the closures. When he took over in Colbert the season opened April 8 and was pushed into opening on the first. He’s told me about it a few times. Waterloo had stupid numbers of birds when it reopened. It was a fun few years and I never met an easier gobbler. Biggest came from there at 23lbs and 1 1/2 spurs. Nowhere near that these days

Nowhere near that these days I know an old man which I’m sure you have crossed paths up around Waterloo. He tells crazy stories all the time about when it opened up after the shut down. Unbelievable yet I know how it is nowadays

My Turkey hunting mentor limited out at Waterloo the first year it opened for only the first 5 days of April
5 in 5 days. He laughed about that until he died.
He killed 3 in 3 days at Lamarion years ago.
Towards the end he has to drive within sight of roosted birds but still killed a a few. He got there early and hid his truck best he could.
Never owned a decoy, blind or Turkey seat.
