The end game is the most difficult part of catching a giant marlin. If one is "mutilated" in any form they are disqualified bc its a whole lot easier to catch a cut up or eaten marlin than one that is still fighting for his life.

This rule exists in pretty much every single big game fishing tournament.

And any potential world record has the same rules applied to it by the IGFA.
