The New York Times reported that the “brutal vigilante campaign” began in late April when a group of people “overpowered” police in Haiti’s capital Port-au-Prince after they took 14 alleged gang members into custody. The group of vigilantes took the suspects outside, doused them with gasoline, and burned them to death.

Since the 14 suspects were executed, civilians have reportedly killed at least 160 additional gang members in the area, the report said.

The report said that the vigilante campaign has led to a “sharp drop in kidnappings and killings attributed to gangs.”

That place is a wreck. I hope they get it clened out. Sounds like a good start.

When has Haiti not been a train wreck?

Are you tying to say that the BILLIONS in donations that the Clinton foundation took in to assist Haiti after the earthquake did not help the country get back on its feet?

Give it time. One of the vigilante leaders will step up and it'll just be same stuff, different gang running it.

Haiti, Ukraine, Iraq, Afghanistan, just another instance where politicians and weapon manufacturers got paid. One could choose almost any conflict and make that statement regardless if the US involvement was justified or not.

We went to the Dominican Republic several years ago to one of the all inclusive resorts. It amazes me that the island is split by a border that seems to work because DR is all tourist resorts and Haiti is a mess.

First thing that comes to mind ever time it come up.

There's millions and millions of dollars in machines just rusting there . Was wear houses of water and supplies that was never given out .

You can't just dump money in a $hit hole like that and just walk off .

That border must have crumbled like the southern border between the US and Mexico because there are currently all kinds of travel warnings for Americans traveling the DR. Gang violence, sexual assaults, murders, kidnappings etc. Supposedly pretty rough down there now.

My boss did the same a few montha back and loved it. Said the trip was cheap and the american dollar goes so far down there. The server said he got paid about
$14 a month.

We went there in December of 2022 and had a great time. A dollar tip to those people is like a little gold nugget.

Spent time in both back in the 80's. DR was ok, Haiti was a $hithole!

Yep! That's why I spent so much time down there. Have a ton of Haitian stories. Nasty people.
