I've been cutting grass with a 1991 yazoo Tri wheel commercial mower for the last 15 years. I'm gonna miss her. I keep 4 & 1/2 acre cut and I want something commercial grade with a 60 inch cut, hope this will be the last mower I purchase. What would you buy if you were in the market?

I love Toro commercial mowers. Built like a tank and they have the Kawasaki motor you will want for sure. Skag, Gravely, and X Mark are all good mowers. Tough to make a choice.

I can't stand a thief.

Toro. I jjust bought another one for my business. If it aint got a Kawasaki on it dont buy it. They sure aint cheap but if your using it as a homeowner and take care of it, then it may outlive you.

Exmark with a Kawasaki or a kubota with a diesel. That’s the answer.

Depending on budget, a diesel Kubota.

A good dealer makes all the difference. I went with a Scag to replace my Toro, toro was fine I just walked into a killer deal on a scag. Doesnt hurt that my brother in law is the scag dealer. A good commercial mower will last a LONG time on one yard.

One thing I look for is parts and service. Just something to keep in mind. Belts blades , parts like starters and such that will need replacing.

Operating the yazoo all these years has definitely made me realize a good quality mower is the route I will be going. Haven't considered the Toro but I will now. Those of you that use mowers every day seem to be sold on kawasaki motors, good info thanks

I’ve been cutting 4 acres with a Kubota ZD221 diesel with a 54” deck for the last 12 years. Only issue I’ve had with it was replacing the starter last year and a clogged fuel line about 2 years ago.

Toro couldn’t beat Exmark in the zero turn business, so they bought them Toro and Exmark commercial grade mowers come off the same assembly line. Only difference is toro has their seat and deck. I’ve worked on Toro, Exmark and Scag been doing small engines for 30 yrs, to me a diesel engine is good for a tractor. You do correct maintenance on a gas engine you can get 2000-3000 hrs out of it and maintenance is cheaper on gas engine.

I have the same mower and about 10 years ago the starter was getting pretty weak. I was about to replace it until I saw how expensive a replacement was. I can’t remember the exact details but I took the starter apart and removed grass clippings and dirt, greased it up and put it back together. It’s been fine ever since. Maybe this info can help someone down the road. That’s the only problem I’ve ever had out of it.

If I had that much to spend on a good mower I’d go with exMark. I’ve been seeing a lot of Bad Boy commercial mowers around and they are worth looking at too.

I mow about 3 times that amount. Scag (Patriot model). 52 inch deck. Has an air ride seat. My current one has over 400 hours on it and I have replaced nothing but blades and serviced. My last one a Scag also had over 1200 hours (Freedom Z) without air ride seat. You will be under $7,000 on the Patriot.

My back issues required me to look at a ride thats like a cadillac … my Ferris is3300 with 38.5hp Kawasaki EFI is amazing but it was a pile of money. We sold the JD 930R (tank) and Ferris is2100z (another great ride) and bought this one. It has been worth the money for the comfort and power. And sips fuel so not headed for gas as often either. I don’t have a dealer close by so a dealer brought it to me from Atlanta. I do all my own maintenance and neither Ferris ever needed warranty work so that wasn’t an issue.
