building a house and thinking about using the storm safe room as a gun safe also and just selling my liberty knock off safe. Gonna fancy it up a bit inside I believe but I have so many ideas not sure what is actually practical. Just wondering if anyone else did this and how it turned out.

Put your safe in the safe room. Friend of mine did this when he built last year. 12" of concrete in the floors, walls and ceiling and it's a big room with space for the safe, ammo storage and room to seat 10 people.
Kinda like a belt with suspenders just in case as Justin Wilson would say.

I'd just like to have a safe room so i can just walk in and admire all my Weapons. I'm sick of having 'em locked aways in safes....

Many houses are designed with a covered porch, which makes for a GREAT storm shelter/gun room beneath it in the basement. We have a safe from weather room, complete with helmets and spare hard hats and safety glasses in case we had company in a weather event. In hind sight, it would’ve been VERY easy to build that space with an escape tunnel and a lockable door (in case the house came down and you couldn’t get out. Living in the Oak Grove area all my life, we’ve sadly more than our share of tornado events to draw experienced options from.

Don't forget a dehumidifier for the room and adding duct work to it, plus making it as fire safe as possible. There are a lot of ideas on the internet for these type rooms, you are correct, practicality is the key. Thee are all kinds of different type wall hanging systems, shelving, ammo storage and such, plus a host of other things. Decide on what you want to spend for updating this room, then remember how much your wife spent on the master bath and her walk in closet and add some money for your gun room. On the door, make it metal for fire prevention, then have a lock that will work with your phone and an RFID card.
In the garage or out building, build you a cedar room for you hunting clothes.

If you are wanting to use the room as a storm shelter I would think you would need a door that opens inward and NOT a safe door! Therefore, the room would not be as secure as a safe. So I would build the room big enough to have a safe in it or just have a good security system and have some type of outside lock on the room access door that is solid.

I would build the house and the safe room ADA/wheel friendly.
Not having to fool with steps in a house is amazing and if you’re ever in a wheelchair would be indispensable. Not a bad move if it’s your retirement home.
