I SHOULD finish the book up today or tomorrow. I just wanted to give props to Bryan for his contributions to the book, I really enjoyed getting a little more insight other than what you have given me in the past or over on CG. If you REALLY want to step your game up and like to learn about management aspects of hunting and pick up a few pointers about your trailcameras, pick this book up from the QDMA website. Our very own BSK (Bryan Kinkel) contributed greatly to the book... Thanks again Bryan, I enjoyed it and I will get with you about the banquet speaker list when we get a little more concrete information...

I just wish I had had more space to tell more of the story. Anyone involved in research on any topic will develop specific "areas of expertise" simply because of what they decide to study/research. Because I became interested in trail-cameras from their earliest availability (my ex-boss helped invent the first commercially available trail-camera--the Trail Master system), their use has become something I have focused much of my attention on. And because of my experiences with trail-cameras and the information they can collect, I firmly believe that for the average hunter-manager, the trail-camera is the greatest "information tool" invented to date.

That depends on what you are trying to accomplish. If you are trying to use trail-cameras as a herd monitoring tool (which is what I use them for), my top three tips would be:

1) Run cameras during the hunting season (some only run them pre- and post-season).

2) For cameras run during the season, focus on trying to inventory the buck population (the number of uniqe bucks that use your property during hunting season) and track the number and ages of bucks over the years (trends in population and age structure).

3) To inventory a buck population, the best place to put cameras is over scrapes the month before through the month after your local peak breeding date. For example, if your local peak breeding date is January 10, run cameras on real or mock scrapes from at least December 10 through February 10.

A very good book indeed. It was one of the first "must haves" when I became serious about managing deer. There is no doubt, that effectively using trail cameras will tell you so much about what is happening on your property. They are so much more than merely providing deer pics.

#3... I got more picture from two cameras on two different scrapes this year than just about all of the other cameras on our property combined in a two month stretch..
