Long story short, my Dad planted some Cane/Bamboo as a windbreak at his place years ago. It is now a jungle and is thick as hair on a dog's back. What can I spray to kill it? I have been bush-hogging the cane down that has now spread to my property and it keeps coming back. Some of this stuff is @20' high and the diameter is bigger than a baseball.

Any suggestions on getting it gone permanently?

It’s all one plant. It’s all connected underground. Once it’s taken a hold it’s almost impossible to get rid of. You can probably control it a little better but I doubt you’re gonna get rid of it. We had it at duplex when me and the wife got married and it was a losing battle.

This is a house that used to be on the north side of Luverne. The house became abandoned at some point and the bamboo growing next to it took over the house and eventually destroyed it. The new property owner leveled the entire area with a dozer to clear it out.

You’re screwed lol That stuff is the devil. Actually had a very very good artifact site I gave up on because of it. Impossible to dig because of the roots which were tuff as wire and a mat about 6” deep

Cut all the stalks as low as possible. All new growth 1-2inches tall spray with Garlon or (Strait) Glyphosate 41% worked it didn’t take much per sprout. It took me 3 years to kill a big patch on a fence row had a forestry Mulcher get as low as possible the all new sprouts we sprayed. Stay after the new sprouts.

If I see a specific individual anytime soon, I'll ask if he knows. He actually grows/sells it as a business. Some grown locally but the business is around Hillsboro I believe.
Most of it goes inside at hotels, hospitals, etc... Ya may have you a side hustle and not know it.

Stop the spread with a physical barrier down into the soil.

I hope the above methods work. In general terms you have to keep it from growing to make more energy for more sprouts.

My luck has been so bad lately, it could be raining pussies and I'd catch one with a dick broke off in it.

In all seriousness, it is almost, but not impossible, to get rid of by spraying alone. This is a war, not a battle. If the patch isn’t so large, the bulldozer isn’t a bad plan. Just be sure to get all the roots and dispose of the soil in a way to kill alll parts.

To stop the spread a physical barrier in the ground past the roots(like a concrete wall)

There’s a couple different herbicides for it but gly is the main one ppl use. I’ve always wanted to try a high rate of Arsenal on it just to see what it would do. I’ve always been told you treat bamboo like a grass

I was there today and cut the cane growing in the side of my hayfield. Cut them once and came back and cut them to the bare ground. I will be there tomorrow with pure gly to see how if turns out.

Thanks for all the info men!

Imazapyr is your friend here as long as there are not any hardwoods in the area. Better than gly.

If you don’t get it all, it will come back. The roots grow lateral and you can cut or poison your side but as long as his side is still growing, it’s just like getting a haircut.

Skid steer. Push it up roots and all. Then spray it when it starts coming back
