For those that have hunted turkey on public land in Missouri, how was your experience? Was it easy to find birds? Was it crowded? What part of the season did you go(season opener, mid, or late season)?
If you don’t want your response out in the open, feel free to PM me.
Thanks in advance.

I hunted a couple of times at a private lodge in the NE part of the state. It was eaten up with turkeys the first trip, and there were very few left on the next trip 3 or 4 years later. Most of that land was private, but it seemed to be hunted as hard as AL.
The thing I remember from it is that all those rules didn't help a bit when they had several years of bad weather and poor hatches.
I considered hunting the Mark Twain National Forest, but never got around to it. No doubt there are turkeys there, but everyone said a lot of pressure too. Good luck if you go!

We hunted the same area about 15 years ago. You said everything pretty much right on. The hunting restrictions solved nothing. Just restricted hunting. Pretty much what every other state is doing today. Makes perfect sense - to somebody I guess.

We’ve been going to MO for 7-8 years now hunting private land and their population has seen a pretty steep decline in middle of MO. When we first started going up there, you could ride around and see turkeys is almost every field and now you can ride half a day and not see a single turkey. Our farmer has noticed it too. They used to be all in his hay barns during the winter but now there’s very few. May not be that way throughout the state but down around Sedalia the population is hurting.
