They are great at choking out a tree worth a damn. They also make good bushhog fodder in over grown fields.

I’ve been cutting a bunch down around camp. Not big enough to consider fooling with for any wood value but big enough to cause problems later. I hated to just cut and pile so I tried cutting to firewood length and splitting it. Green or dry I can’t do it. I don’t have a hydraulic splitter and I’m not investing in one. I’m now back to cut/drag/pile. Sweet gum has grain that twists and intertwines. Very difficult to split.
